Hears Report On General Council
At a recent meeting of
Huron Presbytery of the Unit-
ed Church of Canada (covering
an area from Centralia in the
south to Wroxeter in the
north) the Rev. Wm. ten
Hoopen, Goderich, was re-elect-
ed Chairman. A highlight of
the meeting was a report on
General Council which met in
St. John's; the report was giv-
en by S. Scott and Rev. Grant
Mills, Clinton, who were dele-
gates to the meeting in Nfld.
"The New Curriculum was in
the spotlight," they reported,
"and it was discovered that
much of the criticism of this
new material came from people
who read their newspapers re-
ligiously, their Bibles intermit-
tently, and the new material
not at all." An interesting note
is that 100 percent of the
Pastoral Charges in Huron
Presbytery have ordered some
or all of the New Curriculum
material; 85 percent of the Sun-
day Schools.
Approve Call
The Call of Blyth Pastoral
Charge to the Rev. W. Math-
ers was approved: also, the
Call of the Egmondville
Charge to the Rev. A. Scott
of Regina, Sask. Mr. Peter
Lewis, son of Rev. and Mrs. S.
E. Lewis, Exeter, has been ap-
proved as a candidate for the
ministry and will be officially
received at the next meeting of
Presbytery.
A financial report revealed
that a total of $9,300.00 has
been paid to such projects as:
Westminster College. London;
Goderich Camp; "Sing-Time"
(CKNX-TV); Alma College;
and Five Oaks Training Cen-
tre in Paris. Also, a sum of
$33,187.00 has been raised so
far this year for the Mission-
ary and Maintenance Fund of
the church.

Fifth Generation
Baptism At
Bayfield Trinity
The Sacrament of Holy Bap-
tism was administered on Sun-
day, Sept. 27 at Trinity Angli-
can Church by the Rev. E. J.
B. Harrison to Richard Wil-
liam, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don-
ald Johnston.
This baptism is of singular
interest in that the twin great-
great-great aunts of the baby's
grandmother, Mrs. Fred Wes-
ton, were the first babies ever
baptized at Trinity Church.
Over one hundred years af-
ter Janet and Elizabeth John-
ston, twin daughters of Christ-
opher and Katherine Johnston'
were baptized, this fifth gen-
eration relative was similarly
received into the church.
Kathryn Weston, sister of the
child's mother, and Doug John-
ston, the father's twin brother,
were Godparents.
