A lady writes as follows : Cuttings of flowers, such as roses, ,bellotropes, oleanders, etc., can be rooted in small vials filled with warmish water and suspended from the window casement. Everything depends on selecting the • cuttings, If a slip is too young and • full of sap it will fade away from too much evaporation ; if it is hard and ivoody it will take a groat while to •strike root. You must take u cutting that is pezfectly ripened and one from • a vigorous shoot, yet a little hardened at the base. Have a bpd or joint at or near the end of the cuttin;,,as all ,.roots strike from it, and the nearer it is to the base the greater your chances .•ot success. Pull off the lower leaves of -the cuttings, and insert the end for' about an inch into the vial, tie a ,string about the neck of the via`.1 and hang it in the sun. 1E a bit of cotton wool is wrapped about the cutting where it goes into the neck of the rial, and it is kept wet,.it prevents the • rapid evaporation of the water. When the little roots 'show themselves about • an inch or more in' length fill up the vial with a rich composted soil, let it hang two or three days- longer, then 'z break off the glass carefully, without disturbing the roots, and pot the plant, Unless the water evaporates a third ' or more do not fill the vial up, Itch, Mange and ,Acratcltosr of every kind, 'on human or animals, cued in 30 minutes by wood - ford's Sanitary Lotion. There is a hopeful report about the Canadian article in. the Glasgow Herald of recent date, which says : Very little United States butter is now finding its way into our markets, owing,•in no small measure to their own enormous and , ever increasing consumption; as well as their turning their energies to the eheese'.making industry, a branch of the provision line which promises to be more profit- able to the States than the butter im- ported to thie •country. (There were on offer some choice ,value Canadian creamery, which would have taken an expert all his tithe to detect • front, fine Danish ; the figure realized for this useful class was from 102s, up.to 4048. per, cwt. Fully alive to the disadvan- ,cage of their style of package, the Canadians are adopting the. continen- tal make of cask, and there are on the way to arrive4several lots got up • in the new style. They will be ger, tainly easier handled than the old. - fashioned tubs, and if the quality keeps up, there is no reason why this colonial butter should not . be readily, bought, —The Timis will be sent to new sub- scribers fromnow till the 1st of January, 1892, for 25 cents.
