There died, after a very short illness,
at the residence of kfr Moore, on
Monday,the 17th ins% Miss McDougall
of Grey. The deceased was 'a bright,
promising young lady,a school teacher,
and bad spent the last few menthe at
the Goderich Collegiate Institute,
where she was much beloved and res
spected by her teachers and fellow
students. She leaves a large circle of
friends to mourn her untimely death.
—While Geo Proctor was driving along
the 5tb line, near the residence of Mr

away, throwing him out, giving him a
severe shakina up and injuring the

Canada were laid on the table of Parlia-

A SiX-STORY building in New York, en
Saturday last, fell with a crash to the
ground. It is said that its fall was caused
by an explosion, but the building had
been condemned thirteen years ago as
unsafe. Vire started in the reins shortly
• after the crash, and those who were not
killed outright were burned to death•.

children of Mr John Hamilton, near
Lakelet, who have been down with
diphtheria, are now quite convalescent,
though the first one attacked by it
died.—The farmers of this vicinity are
looking quite jubilant 'over the geed
crops, though the recent storm did a
good deal of damage, to crops, trees,
&o. Amongst other damage the
New Spring Bank, Cheese factory,
which was rapidly rising towards com-
pletion; was blown to the ground. --
Mr Andrew Montgomery and Mr Anson
Spotton, of Orange Hill, had quite an
adventure with a lynx, one night hist
week. After being chased for quite a
distance, they kept it at bay with no
other instruments but their hats and
escaped from it with but slight injuries
more than -a good fright. --,We are
pleased to learn that Mr Ansori Spots
ton has returned from his trip to the
east in good spisits and has again te-
