Tuckersmith Farmer Wins World Champion Hay Trophy For Third Time at . Royal News 'of Huronview Mrs. Anderson of Exeter led the Christian Women's Club song service on Sunday evening with the devotions taken by Mrs. Hall. Twenty-four residents having November birthdays were honoured at a party oil Wednesday afternoon. The party provided by the Crediton Women's Institute had all the trimmings with birthday 'Cake, candles, hats and a gifrfor each celebrant presented by the president, DoloresShapton. The variety program introduced by Jean Neil, included tap dancing ,by Mona: Hodgins, a vocal quartet -- a skit -- Donna Bushfield and Doreen Browning -- musical numbers and a sing-song with Lois Hodgins, Piano, and Mr, Sawyer, violin. Lunch was served by the ladies with volunteers rom the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority assisting with residents to and from the program. Mrs, J. Finkbeiner, a , former resident of the Crediton area, thanked the ladies on behalf of the residents. Mr. 'Jim Lawrie arranged the program for Family Night. The Countrymen Four, a musical group from Blyth, Wayne McClinchey, Steve Walsh, 13111 Burkholck•rf and Jim Beaton, entertained with several number,s; vocal solos by Jim Lawrie accompanied by Mrs. Grace Brown, and also slides of , Scotland shown by Mr: and Mrs. Lawrte, Mrs. Mary Taylor thanked those taking part in the program. trant to have won the'champlon- ship on three occasions. A slight change was made in the ruling which will have a max- imum fee payable to the township of $200 in any land division. Ontario regulations stipulate that on any land division deal, five percent of the value of the property shall be set aside for recreation purposes. Approval was given to the purchase of a new Duomatic oil fired suspended furnace for the township garage from Cudmore Heating of Exeter. The purchase price will be $531, subject to compliance with Department of Labour regulations. Clerk-treasurer Harry Strang was instructed to make ap- plication to' the Department of Transportation and C oin - m u nications for the interim road subsidy on expenditures to date of $82,254.38. One tile drain loan application in the amount of $4,200 was ap- proved and a debenture for the same figure was passed. Members learned that A. M.- Spreit and Agfiociates have ac- cepted the' Scott- drain assign- ment in Hibbert township and James Howes, Listowel has accepted the Heywood drain assignment and has filed a cer- tificate of completion on the Ausable River drain and advises that the contractor may now be paid in fpli. A letter of thanks was received from Van Bree Bros. for council's consideration on the Brock Creek drain branch "A" contract. Strang also told council 1971 taxes paid to date totalled $96,933.84 with approximately 90 percent of the first installment received. Advertising will be placed in • local papers towards the end of November to the effect that all tax billings were completed in June and that there will be no fall tax billing. REPAIRS For the third time in the 14 years it has been awarded, a Brucefield, Ontario farmer, Russell Dales, has won the White Challenge Trophy for 'the world champion hay entry at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto. Mr. Dalls gained the trophy after his entry took top place in,a second-cut hay glass in the haying competitions. The trophy, which has been awarded annually since 1958 by White Farm Equipmeht (formerly C ockshutt Farm Equipment) is competed for by all types of ,hay entries af :the Royal. The individual winner award, which is represented by an en- graved silver tra y and a $100 cheque, was presented to Mr. All Dallas in a ceremony on Wed- nesday, November 17 in the Colt- seum Building at the Canadian National Exhibition grounds in Toronto. It was one of a number of awards in the annual Royal Winter Fair awards presentation program. Mr. Dallas, 76, .received the first official notification of the • award on November 9, the day he and his wife Helen were cele- brating their 50th wedding anniv- ersary. The farm 'which they operate In the Brucefield district, has been In the Dallas family for more than 120 years, having been established by his grandfather in 1848. The priginal trophy offered by White Farm Equipment is a large brone representation of a farm haying operation, which remains permanently in the care 41 of the Royal for safekeeping.
