Thanksgiving with Mr. and Mrs.
Doug Aitchison at Niagara Falls.
BRODHAGEN SUGAR PLUMS
The Brodhagen Sugar Plums
met at the Brodhagen Community
Centre. Minutes were read by the
secretary, Sherri Leonhardt and
the treasurer's "report by Vicki
Bennewels. Eight members and
two leaders answered the roll
call which was name a fruit
you ate yesterday and tell how
it was served. The book covers
committee distributed books and
the girls discussed pastry
making, rolling pastry, two crust
pie and a one crust pie. Janet
Scherbarth, Sherri Leonhardt,
Carol Rose, and Patricia Jar-
muth made two pies. Press re-
porters are Nancy Rose and Carol
Rose.

district attended a trousseau tea
at the home of Mrs Percy Wright W
of Kippen on Saturday, held in
honour • of her daughter Miss
Janice Wright, whose marriage
to Mr. Hugh Scott takes place
.on Saturday, October 23rd in
Kippen United Church.

Thanksgiving meeting of Crom-
arty Women's Missionary Soc-
iety. The president, Mrs. Mervin
Dow, presided and welcomed
members of the Marian Ritchie
Auxiliary as their guests. She
led in the service of dedica-
tion and call to Worship. Psalm
103 was read in unison and Mrs.
Calder McKaig, Mrs. Charles
Douglas and Mrs. M. Lamond
read spparate Scripture pas-
sages. The guest speaker, Mrs.
Norman Coulthard of St. Pauls
used as the subject of her ad-
dress, Fruits of Gratitude. A
pleasing solo ''What Shall I Give
Thee Master" was sung by Mrs.
Hazel Sadler of Sault Ste. Marie
and a timely topic was given by.
Miss Olive Speare. Mrs. T.L.
Scott gave courtesy remarks.
Mrs. C',, McKaig reported '1 cards
and 3 visits to the sick. Lunch.

as convener of lunch committee.
PTA Hears Of School Aims

on the aims and objectives of

on December 3rd,

workman of having reverted to
the evils of alcohol because she
-had seen his wheelbarrow parked
outside the local pub. The ac-
cused made no attempt to de-
fend himself, but placed the
wheelbarrow outside her door
and left it there all night.

there are 150 brand new hymns
in the book and a substantial
number have been written by
Canadians.
"The Observer was edited,
not for the inner core of the
church, but for the rank and file
members," Dr. Forrest pointed
out., He added "It is sometimes
accused of being controversial
but if the issues get you into
controversy, you can't run away
from the issues."
Miss Elizabeth Facey, Strat-
ford, in charge of publications
for the Huron-PerthPresbytery,
was in charge of the meeting,
which was attended by 48
ministers and representatives
of the Observer committee.
"Some pedple 'think that be-
cause the United Church sold the
Ryerson Press, it no longer has
a publishing house, but we do,"
stated Dr. A.C. Forrest, Toronto,
editor and publisher of the United
Church Observer.
''Its biggest publication is the
Observer with 300,000 sub-
scribers. This year's biggest
enterprise is the -distribution of
the new United-Anglican hymn
book!", he added.
Dr. Forrest and Rev. Stanley
Porteous of Toronto, "promotion
manager for the United Church
Publishing House, were here at
Northside United Church to dis-
cuss publications of the United
Church.
Mr. Porteous said the hymn
book, which has" been five„years
in preparation, is coming off
the presses with a pre-publica-
tion sale of 120,000 copies.
The audience sang hymns
from the hymn book, a red musi-
cal edition - the red symbolizes
the joy and coldr in the modern
church.
Mr. Porteous said the pub-
lishers decided that now that
almost every Canadian child
