Imperial Order, Daughters of
the Empire, Mitchell, celebrated-
their fiftieth anniversary on
Thursday evening with a banquet
at the Mitchell District High
School. The Chapter, formed in
1921, was first known as ,'The
Mitchell Chapter", but after a
visit of JeSn Blewett, then the
Women's Editor of the Toronto
Globe and also a poetess, at
the home of Mrs. T. S. Ford,
the name was changed.
Regent, Mrs. moss (Olive)
Wilson chaired the evening and
introduced Mrs. Douglas Sloan
of Guleph, a former' Regent, who
pronounced the Invocation,
follows by the Toast to
The Queen,
After a roast beef dinner
'\erved by the caterers of school,
Mrs. Wilson introduced the head
table guests. Bringing greetings
were two national councillors,
Mrs. C. L, Baldwin of St.Marys,
who is also Assistant Junior
Chapter Secretary and councillor
for District 'D' of the Provin-
cial Chapter of Ontario. Also
Mrs. Alex Dawson of Embro, who
is Educational Secretary of the
Provincial Chapter of Ontario.
Mrs. Edward (Catherine)
Hocking, Secretary of the Local
Chapter read the names of the
members who were honoured with
pins. Mrs.. Elise Matheson, the
only charter member who is still
active in Jean Blewett Chapter,
received a gold fifty year pin,
which was presented by Mrs.
Baldwin.. Twenty-four members
who have been active for twenty-
five years or more were pre-
sented with twenty-five year
silver pins by Mrs. Dawson.
Mrs, Lloyd Edighoffer, a
former Regent introduced a
former well known Mitchell boy,
Professor Glenn ,Carroll of the
University of Waterloo.
, Honorary Regent, Mrs. W. C.
Thorne contributed a piano
number and Miss Nola Dow, with
a vocal number accompanied by
her mother, Mrs. Earl Dow.
Mrs. Mid. Fisher gave courtesy
remarks. The Chapter's C harter
and Standards were on display.

The Kippen I Dazzling Dairy
Gals met at the home of Jill
McLellan. Mrs. McLean, the
leader, talked about Milk around
the Main Course. For a dem-
onstration Joanne Van Wieran
made cheese drop biscuits, Jill
McLellan made egg nog, Maureen
Connolly showed how to make
curds and whey from a rennit
tablet and milk, and Mrs. McLean
with help from some of the mem-
bers, made a cheese dish with
numbers of cheese displayed on
it.
4-H MEETING
Brodhagen Sugar Plums met
at 'the Brodhagen Community
Centre when he secretary,
Sherri Leonhardt read the min-
utes. The treasurer's report was
read b y Vicki Bennewies. Ten
members and the two leaders,
Mrs. Scherbarth and Mrs. Ben-
newies answered the roll call
to naine fruits. Nancy Rose,
chanteil Pegg, and Vicki Ben-
newies demonstrated making
Oriental Chicken, Carrot arid
fruit salad. ,

the Edgar-Beiman wedding on

returned home after a pleasant
visit with their daughter, Mrs.

Mrs. Chas. Snelling has sold
her residence to Mr. Robert
Caldwell, Clinton and moved on
Thursday to her new apartment'
in Clinton.

Burdge of Camp Borden spent
the holiday weekend at their
foprier home in Brucefield. Be-
sides being a get-together with
„their own family, Sherran of
Owen Sohnd, Ricky of Brucefield
And'Mr. Burdges' father,• they
were pleasantly surprised by al
-number of other relatives coming
Saturday evening to help cele-
brate their 25th wedding anniver-
sary.

The guest 'speaker at the
meeting of the Catholic Wom-
en's League, held in the parish
hall Tuesday was Mrs. Fal-
Iona, of London. , who showed
slides of her trip to Rome and
Algiers. She was thanked -and
presented with a gift by Mrs.
Richard Downey.
For the meeting, Mrs. Dom-
inic Murray presided while Fr.
Oostveen opened the meeting with
the League piayer

Ladies to care for the altars
for October are Mrs. Richard
Downey and Mrs. Vincent Muns-
ray. Church will be cleaned
October 20th in preparation for
the Forty Hours Devotion which
begins October 24th.
The meeting agreed to give
a donation to the Peace and
Development Fund, and to buy
books for the school.
It was -decided to .have a
card party on November 2nd
for everyone, in honor of the
senior citizens.
The meeting closed with
prayer by Mrs. Fallona.
The prize, donated by Mrs.
Ed McGrath was won by Mrs.
Maurice Melady.

Mr. Tokar reported.. He said
in the cooking program, the four
boys ,who chose 'It are given
instructions in it in a private
home near the school while the
six arts ' go the convent' for
lessons. He suggested this was
better than buying stoves and
*other equipment to put in the'
schools't arld it produced parent
involvement which he considered
ideal.
The meeting ended with the
trustees meeting as a committee
of the whole. -
