TO THE VICTORS . . . .
Well,' baseball is kaput for another year in the Seaforth
Area and, to no one's surprise, the Mechanics have lived ml
to their image as a power club to come out on top, winners
of the Molson Award for the Seaforth Industrial Fastball
League championship.
The series was , as expected, an excellent one. Two of
the games went right down to the final pitch, while the
other two had lots of thrills for the spectators as runs
poured across the plate.
I must extend my sympathy to Mainstreet, last year's
champs'. The team lost the series the hard way, giving
up bases-loaded walks in the last inning of two, of the
games to score the winning runs. A couple of tough
breaks, without which I miglithave had to extend my sym-
pathy to the Mechanics.
There is little doubt that the Mechanics had the power
to best the rest of the league. Had it not been for a slow
start they probably would have won the league pennant as
well. In spite of losing their first three games they were
able to come back and finish. only one point back of the
league leading Mainstreet team. Just as an example, to
show the size of the team, the outfield- alone for the game
on Sunday weighed in at 696 lbs. 'That's just three men,
folks.
For those of you evho are interested the members of the
champion Mechanics are, Gary Osborne, Doug. McAsh,
MOrrison„ Bill Muir, Eric Chuter, Chuck Kreiger,
Bill Teall, Bob Pimple, Frank Bremner, Dave Shenk',
Wayne Scott, Brian MacDonald and myself. My apologies
if I missed anybody.
Congratulations are' also in order for the Swingers 1.4f .
the Ladies Softball League who defeated the Slammers
23 - 22 Tuesday, night to take the championship in that
league.
Both leagues have had very successful seasons and
'I wish every success for next year and all future Years
as well. I think they do an excellent Job for recreation in
Seaforth. I only wish there were more people willing to
work as •organizers of industrial ball, both men's and
ladies; to conduct a successful sports program in Seaforth.
Maybe next year ....

the strength of Dave Leonhardt's
two-run.double and steal of home
but the game was quickly tied as
Rostock pitcher Rpn Fisher tag-
ged a solo homer.
The Brewers picked up two
more runs in the seventh and one
in the eighth, all due to Rostock
errors. The scoring was rounded
out by another Rostock homer in
the eighth.
Gary Little earned the win for I
the BieWers with some timely
relief from Doug. Leonhardt in
the eighth.
LOST FIRST UNDER PROTEST
The Brewers lost the first
game of their semi-final series
with Rostock Wednesday night.
The game is under protest, how-
ever, as Rostock used a man in
their lineup who is not registered
with the club according to W.O.
A.A. rules.
The Brewers had several
chances late in the game to go
ahead but were unable to score
leaving a man stranded on third
in the eighth and called out at-
tempting to steal home in the
ninth to end the genie.
Doug. Leonhardt absorbed the
loss in spite of striking out 13
men. He allowed nine hits in the
game.
In spite of the protest, the
series will continue as
scheduled.

Saturday
St. Columba n lost by a 3 - 1
score to London Lions in a Lon-
don & District Soccer League
game played in Seafprth on
Saturday.
St. Columban carried the play
for the lst 20 minutes of the 1st
half but couldn't find the. range
around the Lions ' net. London
opened the scoring at the mid-
'way point of the half from a cor -
ner-kick in the St. Columban end.
The ball was centered and was
headed Into the goal- from the
goal mouth with goalie Paul O'-
Reilly having .no chance on the
play.
The wet and slippery condit-
ions made it difficult for the
players to control the ball result-
ing in many mis-plays.
The Lions made it 2 - 0 just
before half-time when the ball
was centred from the left wing
to Lion leading scorer Jack De
Vos. He sidestepped two St.
Columban defenders just outside
the 18 yd. line and fired a hard
drive into the top right corner
of the net.
In the 2nd half play went from
end to end but St. Columban still
couldn't make the score-sheet,
with Lion goalie Charlie Bowman
many key saves. London
raised the count to 3 - 0 in the
latter stages. of the game, from a
scramble in 'the St, Columban
goal-mouth.
St. Columban counted their
only goal of the game in the last
5 minutes of play when Larry
Martin broke in on the left wing
only to have his shot blocked
by goalie Bowman. Tom Love
picked up the loose ball and
fired it" into the net to make the
