Representatives of 12
municipalities composing the
Bayfield River watershed area,
and another nearby township, of-
- tidally voted 12 toltne Wednes-
day to, join the Ausable River
Conservation Authority.
Simultaneously, 21 members
of the 26-members authority
present for the meeting, \ voted
unanimously to accept the
Bayfield watershed group.'
It was the second vote on the
issue in less than two months.
The municipalities• 'called an
"unofficial"" vote in April to
serve as a barometer before
calling in provincial department
of energy and resources
management officials for the
official vote. The unofficial vote
had Pissed eight to four.
Mrs., Carl Hume, secretary-
treasurer of the Ausable River
Conservation Authority, said the
next step is an order-in-council
by the, province, which, she spec-
ulated, will probably .be dated
Jan 1, 1972.
Mrs. Hume explained the
delay would likely be made for
budget reasons. The authority's
1971 budget was drawn up' f;i: the•
23 municipalities ' that were
members at .-the first of this
year.
Amdng the Bayfield municip-
alities that will be joining the
authority are the townships of
Goderich, Stanley, McKillop,
Hullett and •Logan, the towns of
Seaforth and Clinton, and the
villages of Zurich and Bayfield.
Parts of the three ' other
Bayfield municipalities were
already in the authority. Now to
be fully within the authority are
the townships of Hay, Hibbert,
and Tuckersmith.
Ninety-Seven percent of
Stephen Township was already in
the jurisdiction of the authority,
and while the remaining three
percent was not in- the Bayfield
River watershed area whep, the
official vote was called, it' was
decided to include the remainder
of the township in the vote.
A two-thirds majority was
required in the official vote.
Last October, the Bayfield
municipalities turned down a
Seaforth proposal to join the
Maitland Valley .Conservation
Authority by one vote.
Besides the addition of the
Bayfield River watershed, the'
Ausable authority now also in-
cludes "all other streams en-
tering Lake Huron from the point '
where the north boundary of the
Ausable River Conservation
Authority meets with the shore of
Lake Huron to the point where
the north boundary of Bayfield
meets the shOre' of Lake Huron."
Wednesday's resolution states.
N. D. Patrick; director of the
conservation authority branch of
the department of energy and
resources, represented the'
province at the meeting.
The name of the municipality
casting 'a ballot against joining
the authority, was , not released.
Riverside 'United Church,
London, guest minister for the
morning
day. For the subject, he
chose to speak on "The Church
To-Day - Alive: Active; Aware"
and in the evening "At Every
Corner". The Senior and Junior
choirs of the church provided
-special ---musie----for---the --morning- - -
service, while the Huronia Choir
for the evening sang "Jesus Set
the World to Singing"; "Sunrise,
Sunset"; "Evening Prayer",
