John was diggusted when the
phone woke him at two in the
morning. He picked it up and
heard 'a neighbor's voice com-
plaining, "Your dog is barking
so loudly I can't sleep." Then,
before John could reply, the
¤ neighbor hung up.
The following morning at two
sharp, John rang up this neighbor
and said, last wanted you to
know that I don't have a dog."
Passirsby at the sports field
of 5.0.11.5. last Sunday might
well have wondered if Sea-forth
had been granted a CFL fran-
chise. The field was dotted
with small groups of boys
suitably equipped and engaged
in some facet of football.
• ' The occasion was a football
clinic arranged by coach Terry
Johnston. Mr, Johnston is a
member of the London Lords
O.R.F.U. football team and he
'milted several of his teammates
to act as coaches for the day.
They included 6'6", 265 lb.Alf
Russell, who was the Lord's
Lineman of the year last season,
and Erna+ Turek who has had
tryouts with both Hamilton and
Ottawa in the C.F.L:Others who
helped out were, Don Young, Art
Murphy and Bill Matheson.
The day consisted of a two
hour Morning work sesVon fol-
lowed by lunch and the screening
of a movie on last year's Grey
Cup. Then It was back to work
for a further two hour session
in the 85' degree weather. Not
the best weather for football
agreed the boys and the leaders
alike but all said they had an
enjoyable time and learned a
lot at the clink.
Mr. Johnston pointed out that
it was the first clinic of its type
in Seaforth and expressed the
hope that it might be made into
an •annual event encompassing
not Only high school students but
also kids tram the public and
separtite schools as well as any
interested members 'of the gen-
eral public.
It is hoped that the boys of
the "Golden Bears" canput their
training to work this fall and come
up with a winning season.
While we're on.the subject of
teachers and sports, congratulat-
ions are in order for TerryJohn-
ston and Bill-Weber who lives in
Seaforth and teaches at C.H.S.S. in Clinton.

of the half when Gbrd Moylan
dropped 'a shot into the Wood-
stock end and when a Woodstock
fullback- attempted to pass the ball
to his goal tender, he scored into
his own net to make the score
3-2 for St. Columban at half--
time. St. Columban had the
kick-off to start the 2nd half
and with two quick passes, Brian
Melady broke in all alone only
to have his shot miss the open

The pair took part in the
annual Huron-Perth teachers
open Golf Tournament held last
Saturday at Oakwood Golf coutse,
in Grand bend and each came
home a winner'.
Mr. Johnston shot a front 9
of 40 against an eighteen hole
handicap of -2O to come in with
low gross 'for the 9 hole tourney.
Mr. Weber had the low net
score for the nine holes.
More than sixty-five teachers
from public, 'separate and secon-
dary 'schools in Huron and Perth
registered for the event. George
Ring, the Industrial Arts teacher
at S,D.H.S, was the only other
representatiVe from Seaforthen-
tered.
EYES WELLINGTON CUP TEAM
Having worked around to the
subject of golf (a far cry from
football), congratulations are in
order for Ken Doig of Sea-forth
who took part in the Ontario
Open held at the Weston Golf
and Country Club in Toronto.
Ken, shot a 72 the first round
and was leading amateur after
the day. A second round '73
and third round 74 gave him
219 'for the 72 hole tournament
and sixth place in the amateur
standing.
Although he didn't win the
tournament, Ken is in excellent
position to make Ontario's Wel-
lington Cup Team: The Team
is made Up of, the amateurs ;
,with the lowest scores for the
first two rounds of the Ontario
'Open and the Ontario Amateur.
This latter tournament will be
played in Toronto in July.
If Ken does well in the first
rounds of the Amateur he may
fulfill a long time ambition in'

teur Team championship. This

St. Columban made it 4-2 when

the net, for his 2nd goal of the
game.
Tempers flared mid-way
