called the land of many waters.
There are '750,000 people of
Amerindian (the original inhab-
itants), East Indian, African,
Portuguese, Chinese, other Eur-
opean background. Most of the
Guyana Coastland is below sea
level and is cultivated by a sys-
tem of canals and sluices which
hold back the salt water and let
in the fresh water from creeks
and streams. The major part
of the population live on the
Coast. The main crops of Guyana
are rice, sugar cane, coconuts,
bananas, pla ntains, and other
tropical growth. The main natural
resource of the country is baux-
ite from which aluminum is made.
When the, East Indians came from
.India they brought Hinduism and
Mohammedanism along with
these religions. Christianity in
many denominations is present
among the people. Perhaps one
of the biggest needs of Guyana
is to make sure that all its youth
have the means whereby they can
take advantage of the Guyanese
.._eclugalional system. Some of the

Advise Care
In Spraying
Farmers now spraying Spring
Grain Crops are advised to do
so with caution when warm, humid
temperatures and/or moderate
winds are present. Early turnip
and pea crops are now wellalong
and very susceptible to ,drift of
hormone type herbicides used
--on- grain crops. The past year
there was some -S-pray damage to
turnips and\.we do not want to
see it occu again this year.
Farmers spraying thormone
herbicides during windy weather
can be held liable for damages•
they cause on neighbouring crops
due to their negligence in care-
ful 'operation of the sprayer.
It 'is far better that farmers
take -care and avoid damage to
neighbours' crops and possible
legal action. '
