NATIONALISM
We hear a good deal about
Nationalism these days - for
and against. We as Canadians
are not inclined to the type of
Nationalism that prevails in the
United Stales of America. We
somehow think it LS encourag-
ing to note that when many Can-
adians travel to other countries
and are asked where they have
come from they •' answer with
noticeable pride, ',Canada".
'We 'are all proud of our
Country except for a minority
group 'who do not know what
they wart and disagree with
everything and anything just to.
be different. Such a group reared
Its ugly head in Vancouver the
other day when they tore down
the Canadian flag and raised
behavitor is hard to understand
in a country where so much
freedom is enjoyed. It would be
interesting to know how long
these same people would survive
under a Communist Government
which would suppress all their
freedoms.
It is quite evident that there • is a•subyersive element in this
country spreading distru .st and
treachery among. the malcon-
tents. We would do- well to
..remember the words of Com-
rade Robert Sm elite , V ice Presi-.
dent of the Royal Canadian
Legion, Eternal vigilance is the
price of Ueace." We should also
remember the freedom that we
enjoy was paid for by ninny
thousand s of lives, and to throw
it away by our apathy would be
an act of betrayal.
