A special "Old Tyme"
Service was held at Duff's United
Church Sunday morning on the
occasion of Laity Sunday. Rev.
Derwyn Docken conducted the
service, it being The West-
minster Directory Service of
1644 for the PresbyterianChurch
in Scotland. The men's choir
rendered two anthems assisted
by the organist Mrs. Ian Wilbee.
Lunch was served at the close
of the morning service by the
ladies of Jthe Walton Unit and
the 8th and 16th Unit did the
tidying up.
Next week the Walton Cub
Pack ..will j oiri in at the morning
service. •
UNIT MEETINGS
• The Walton Unit of the U.C.W.
met Wednesday evening in the
basement of the church with 19
members present.
Mrs. Allan McCall opened
the meeting and "I am Thine
0 Lord" was sung with Mrs.
v e rb Traviss at the piano. A
psalm was read in unison, fol-
lovied by Mrs.. McCall leading
in prayer. Mrs. Gerald Watson
read the scripture from Psalm
42 after which Mrs. McCall read
a poem' entitled "He Under-
stands". The meditation was read
by Mrs. wWatson. Mrs. Mac
Shordice, the treasurer, received
the offering and it was dedi-
cated by Mrs. McCall. A read-
ing "Teach us to wait" was
given by Mrs. Watson.
The Topic was taken by Mrs.
W. C. Hackwell which dwelt on
the British Honduras. The coun-
try is 200 by 70 miles . and
inhabitants are mostly Spanish
coming from Mexico. British
liondura,s was founded by Brit-.
ish log cutters. and the coast
consists mainly of swamp going
gradually inland to mountainous
country. Mrs. Ha.ckwell'oetlined
the Mission work being carried
out in the British Honduras.
Even though they are a small
group and feel as far as pro-
gress is concerned, they stand
still quite often but they still
struggle to succeed.
Several items were read on
',To stand still is to be con-
demned". We should always keep
moving towards' improvement in
some small way and try to
tread in the footsteps of our
Saviour". Even though there are
pitfalls along the way we must
have faith to carry on and keep
moving towards our goals, speak-
ers warned.
Mrs. Gerald Watson presided
for the business. Minutes were
read by the secretary Mrs. W.
C. Hackwell. It was decided to
invite the Moncrief Ladies and
other units to a Bazaar in April
when Mrs. W. C. Bennett, Sea-
forth will speak. Mrs. Wm.
Coutts reported for, the quilt
,gommittee. There had been 5
quilts completed this season with
3 being for the Bazaar. Mrs.
Howard Hackwell made posters
for the bazaar. Plans were made
for the Laity Sunday luncheon.
A large crowd attended the,
reception in the Walton Com-
munity Hall, on Friday evening
for Mr. and Mrs. Larry Bolger,
recent newlyweds, who now
reside in Blyth. Prior to lunch
then, couple was called to the
platform, when an addrels of
congratulations was read by
Gerald Smith. Graerne Craig pre-
sented them with a purse of money
on 'hehalf of their friends and
neighbours of the community.
Mrs. Nelso n Reid, Mifs. Herb
Traviss, Mrs. E. Mitcheti, Mrs.
Pete McDonald and Mrs. W.C,
Hackwell were appointed to help.
There will be no April meeting
because of the Bazaar. and the
May meeting will be a joint
U.C.W. meeting with a Pot Luck
supper.
Mrs. Gerald Watson thanked
everyone, for their cooperation
and help during her term as
President. Mrs. Emmerson Mit-
chell will be the president for
the next term. -
Lunch was served by Mrs.
William Thamer, Mrs. William
Blake and Miss Pearl Thamer,
WALTON W.I.
The Walton Women's Insti-
tute will hold their meeting in
the hall on next Wednesday even-
ing with the Convenors, Mrs. J.
Van Vliet, Jr. and Mrs. Nell
McGavin in charge o n Canadian
Industries. There will be guests
from other East Huron branches
with a demonstration by Mrs.
Clarence Dennis of Moncrief.
The Roll Call is to be answered
by "Name an industry unknown
to your grandmother".
Larry made a fitting reply. The
evening was spent dancing •to
the music of Ian Wilbee and his
orchestra.
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Achilles
and Debbie of Fergus, and Mr.
and Mrs. Rollie Achilles were
supper guests Saturday evening
at the home of mr. ' and Mrs.
Don Achilles, the occasion being
Danny Achilles' 6th birthday. .
Miss Ruth Ritchie spent the
weekend at the home of her par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Ritchie.
Mr. and Mrs. A. Docken of
London spent the weesend with
Rev. and Mrs. D. Docken and
new daughter at the Manse.
Mr. Dawson Woodburn of Alt-.
house College, London spent
Thursday evening at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Huether, after
attending classes that afternoon
at the Blyth Public School.
' Miss Corrie De Ruyter, sis-
ter of Mrs. J. Van Vliet Sr.
returned to Holland last Thurs-
day, after spending several years
in this community. She had been
employed at Stratford.
Miss Julie Street, Listowel
spent the weekend with Mr. and
Mrs. E. Mitchell and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Watson
left last Wednesday from Malton
Airport for Vancouver where they
will spend the next few weeks
with their son-in-law and daugh-
ter, Mr. and Mrs. Rae Nelson and
family.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon McGavin
arrived home last Saturday from
Arizona after spending several

The McKillop Unit of the
U.C.W. met in Duff's United
Church with elevenpresentaars.
Campbell Wey opened with a
Missionary Thought. Mrs. Neti
McGavin was pianist and Mrs.
'Wey led in prayer. The scrip-
ture from 1 Peter 2: 9-10 and
Thessalonions 1: 11-12 was read
by Mrs. H. Rock. Meditation was
given by Mrs. Wey and Mrs.
Merton Hackwell read a poem.
The offering was received by
the treasurer Mrs. Norman
Schade and dedicated by Mrs.
C. Wey. The Topic was given
by . Kr s. C. Wey when she intro-
duced the packet, "On the
Americans". Mrs. Wey closed
the devotional part with prayer.
Mrs. Norman Schade,' the
president, presided for the busi-
ness opening with a couple of.
poems. The secretary, Mrs. W.
J. Leeming read the minutes.
Mrs. John Burch gave her re-
port from the Huron-Perth Pres-
byterial meeting she attended
recently in Mitchell as a dele-
gate. Schade closed the
meeting with prayer. -- •
17th AND BOUNDARY UNIT
The 17th and Boundary Unit
of the U,C.W. met at the home
of Mrs. J, Van Vliet Sr. Mrs.
Hugh Johnston opened the meet-
ing with a thought for the day'
and the reading of the scripture
from 2 Cor.: 1-21. Mrs. John-
ston read a, poem on The De-
linquent". Mrs. Harvey Craig
discussed "How to pray with
no strings attached" in co-
ordination with the World Day
of Prayer and A Church
Worker". The story concerned
Mrs. Marilyn Huband, an ener-
getic U.C.W, President from
Manitoba who gave the. younger
weeks, also visiting Dr. and Mss
Graham. Stewart.
Mr. and Mrs. Murray Dennis
and Mr . and Mrs. Gerald Ryan
returned home from Florida on
Monday.
Mrs. William Thamer spent a,
few days last week at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Volker Hert-
lein, London.
Mr. and Mrs. Alla n Searle
and Mr, and Mrs. pave Mutt* of
Seaforth have returned from a
Florida holiday.

were nine pair of pyjamas given
out to be sewn for the Children's
Aid Society.
Mrs. George Williamson pre-
sented Miss Corrie de Ruyter
with a gift from the group and
she also received a going away
gift from the neighbors, as she
is returning to Holland early this
month.
Mrs. J. Van Vliet Jr. dis-
played different boxes of cards
which the 8th and 16 th unit
are selling' instead of a bazaar.,
Mrs. Hugh Johnston closed the
meeting with prayer. Lunch was
served by Mrs. Harvey Craig,
Mrs. Hugh Johnston and the host-
ess.
8TH AND16TH UNIT
The 8th and 16th unit met at
the home of Mrs. Ken McDonald.
Mrs. Jim Fritz opened the meet-
ing. Mrs. Fritz "led in prayer.
She also read the Scripture from
St. Mark 12:28-34, followed with
Meditation. ,IVIrs.-Don McDonald--
read an article 'on Lent. Mrs.
Rae Houston took the Tcipic on
the Scripture on the 1st and 2nd
commandments. The offering was
received by Mrs. D. McDonald
and dedicated by Mrs. J. Fritz.
Minutes were read by the Sec-
retary, Mrs. George McCall.
Mrs. J. Fritz conducted a Musi-
cal Contest. Lunch was served
by Mrs. Harold Bolger and Mrs.
Jim McDonald. •

The Walton Ill homemaking
club "Separates for Summer',
met at the home of Mrs. Harold
McCallum. Officers elected are:
president, Marion McCallum;
vice-president, Gwen Busman;
secretary, Kandis Hickson;
press reporter, Jane Leeming..
Mrs. McCallum told what tp
put in sewing boxes and dis-
cussed styles, fabrics,. covers "
and Record Books. Mrs. McCal-
lum served lunch.
The second meeting of Walton
III 411 club was held at the home
of Mrs . Wm. Leeming with 11
girls present. President Marion
McCallum was in charge. Min-
utes were read by Kandla Hick-
son. It was dedided to call the
club the Walton III Super Sewers.
Mrs. McCallum explained
each part of the pattern and
how to use it and how to alter Na
it. 'Mrs. Leeming explained how
to prepare fabric for cutting.
Mrs. Leeming served lunch.
DAY OF PRAYER
The World Day of Prayer
service was held in the base-
ment of Duff's United Church,
Walton on Friday with Mrs. Mar-
tin Baan playing a piano prelude
prior to the service.
Mrs. Walter Bewley opened
the service giving a warm wel-
come to everyone, including
ladies from all denominations in
the community. Those assisting
in the order of service were
Mrs. Joe Ryan, Mrs. Ken Wil-
liamson, Mrs. James Shortreed
and Mrs. Campbell Wey.
Mrs. Alvin McDonald intro-
duced the guest speaker Rev.
J.C. Britton of Northside United it
Church, Seaforth, who spoke on
the World Theme, "A New People
for a New Age", stressing we
must be reminded of differences.
The new nature is bound to the
old environment, but needs to
be renewed in the image who have
redeemed and created us. Mrs. I
James Clark thanked Rev. Brit-
