Observes Education Week

The slogan for Education Week this year has
been schools are for people.. Students have been
urged to bring their parents, friends, neighbours and
grandparents to school sonletime.during the weell,
Many activities were scheduled so that the
greatest-number of interests and talents couldbe
encouraged. ,
It has certainly been evident this term that the
schools are not on favourable terms with the weather.

show his stubborn persistence, a blizzard closed:- •
Huron Centennial School at Brucefield on Monday
and Tuesday of last week.
On Wednesday afternoon, the kindergarten to
grade five classes presented a program which
included a preview of spring and a tour of the
Ordent. In spite of the ominous weather, the
auditorium was packed for the performance, The
same evening the Huron County Teachers'
Art Course held an Open Night and display of
materials. The colourful Ointings, murals,
sculpture and animals were left on display for the
week.
Thursday was open day when parents could join
a class to observe. This proved 14s .popular
than the evening performance which featu'ifd a half
hour m DVie depicting the pupils and activities around
Centennial School.' The Usborne Central School
choir joined the Brucefield choir to present choral
selections. ClassrOoms were open and-the staff
on hand to visit, explain.or .hand out th.e coffee.'
Friday night and Saturday night featured a full
length movie ,and cartoons.
Mrs. Hank Ainnendyk, of Route 2, Kippen, admires* a display of Art at Huron Centennial School. The
Art is part of a large display from the adult Art Class which is held in the school each Wednesday night:
The course is run by the Department of Education for Elementary school teachers. Mrs. Binnendyk,
,who has three children attending the school, was visiting during an Open House held in conjunction with

A correlated project of ,the Grade VIII class at. Huron Centennial School involved English and Art.
The students were askee'tb Write a new ending for Farley Mowatt's short story "Lost in the Barrens"
in' English Class and in Art Class they were to interpret the Northern Lights. Admiring the results
are (left to right) Rev. D, Patterson, Egmondville, Harold Knisley, Associated Superintendant of Operat-
ions with the Board of Education, Arnold Mathers, Principal of the schcloi and Mrs. Patterson.
