DEAR DORIS
• - Is there any cure for a
husband who won't admit he has
a drinking problem?
My husband 'is so wonderful
wheh he's sober, but every once
in awhile he just ,has to get
drunk - then he's happy until
something doesn't suit him and
he will curse me' and call me
every name he can think Qt....
Later, when. he sobers up, he'll
apologize and everything is 0.K--
until the next time, bet how long
ani I going to have to do this?
6 I thiets .if he loved me as he
says he does, he should be
willing to give up getting_drunk,
especially when__ he knows it
makes him-treat me badly...,
- DIBOOlift AG ED
DEAR DISCOURAGED - So do I.
But alcoholics ' are not
reasonable. And if they can't
admit their. problem, they can't
take 'a 'Single step in the right
direction. -
Literature listing classic
symptoms which identify the
illness is available through the
provincial • foundation for
research on alcoholism. Perhaps
you could . show• him .sucb a list
of symptoms in the hope he'd
recognize his own behavior.
CONFIDENTIAL TO DOWNCAST

Sure it's a blow to have no
money coming in but the wel-
fare cheque; but in 'cl6pression
times some of our best busi-
nesses have been dreamed up by
energetic people with time 'on
their hands. .
You have a learned skill in
your fingers; your husband knows

hairdressing idea with the merest
skeleton of equipment, and give
