with an attendance of fourteen,
and six visitors, including for-
mer Brucefield members-as well
as Mrs. Sholdice from Exeter,.
"Tell Me The Old, Old Story"
was sung and the devotional per-
iod was taken by- Mrs. R. Chap-
man and Mrs. W. Haugh. Mrs.
Chapman read the Scriptures.
The offering was received
by Mrs. litragh and dedicated
by Mrs. Chapman, Mrs. Haugh
took as her topic "The Assembly
Line" and spoke about the 'Ind-
ian's questions and answers on
the Mexican's and the difference
between them and the Indians.
This part, of the meeting closed
with prayer by Mrs. Chapman.
The president, Mrs. Pater-
son chaired the business part of
the meeting. In the absence of
the new secretary Mrs. Ervin•
Smiles .
With the steady rise in College
costs, the day is not far off
when education may become as
expensive as ignorance.

At_the first meeting of 1971,
the council of the village of
Herrsall decided not to undertake
any major road construction jobs
for the year.
At the same time they con-
sidered a three-year program
to improve the street lighting
within the municipality. To start
the program away, public Util-

coat of about $70 nip.
Other locations named where
additional lighting could be used
were in the vicinity of the Hen-
sall arena and the Queensway
, nursing home.
If the proposed three-year
lighting program is carried out
the PUC would be asked to de-
cide where the lights in a par-
ticular area would be placed,
' Councillor Leonard Erb, a
member of the streets, commit-
tee said he would like to see a
• sidewalk construction_ progra_m
started in 1971.
Road foreman Ernie Davis
was granted a pay, increase of
$500 bringing his annual salary
to $5,200.
Memberships in the Associa-
tion of Rural MunicipalitieS and
the ontario Good Roads Associa-
tion were approved. Tentative
plans Will have Reeve John Baker
and councillor Harold Knight re-
presenting Hensall at Good Roads
while councillors Paul Neilands,
Leonard Erb and Murray Baker
will attend the Rural Municipal-
ities convention. „ '
Councillor Neilands said he
would prepare a , resolution to
be presented at the Ontario Rural
Municipalities convention con-
cerning the collection of school
taxes by each municipality.
Said Neilands, "We have no
say in the levying of school
taxes, why should we be the
collection agency? Let the county
school board do their own col-
lecting. This is a case of taxa-
tion 'without representation."
John Baker, who, has served
on council for 'several years and
was named Reeve of Hensall in
the December 7 election was in.
charge of the inaugaral meeting
and asked for the co-operatiOn of
all council members and' rate-
payers in running the 'village's
business for the next two years.
The balance of ,council con-

Bell. Mrs. R. Vanstone was pre-
sented a gift for her new baby.
A bowling tournament is
coming up in Exeter in the near
future and teams are being.ar-
ranged to participate by the
sports committee, Mrs. Clarence
Reid and Mrs. Alice Koehler.
UNIT -4 UNITED CHURCH
Unit 4 of Hensall United
Church Women met on Thursday,
January 7th with Mrs. James
McAllister presiding.Miss Greta
Laramie favoured with a piano
solo. Mrs. Earl Rowe introduced
the new study book for the year
"The Americas". Thirty-one
visits,to sick and shut-ins were
reported.
AMBER REBEKAH LODGE
Amber. Rebekah Lodge held
their meeting Wednesday, Jan-
uary 6th. In charge was Mrs.
Jack Taylor, N.G., of Brucefield,
assisted by Mrs. Elizabeth Riley.
A donation was made to the
Local Association of Guides and
Brownies and a C. P. & T.
euchre is planned for the near
future. The 22nd birthday party
is being arranged for February.
After the meeting mernhers ex-
changed secret pal gifts when they
found out who their secret pals
were for the year.

for renovations at Hotel Hensall.
The first bylaw of 1971 was
passed naming the members of
the Recreation,Parks and Com-
munity Centre oard. Council will
be represented for a two-year
period by Leonard Erb and Paul"
Neilands.

and Wayne Smith for one year

The Kippen East Women's
Institute will meet next Wednes-
day at 11:30 a.m. in the Legion
Hall, Hensall with Mrs. ,Al Hog-
garth hostess and Mrs. V. Alder-
dice co-hdstess. Each member
is asked to bring a griend and
the Roll Call will be "My latest
quarrel with my husband". It
will be an every member pro-
gram. A Penny Sale will be con-
ducted and a contest will be
carried out by Mrs. J. Drum-
mond. Pot luck dinner will be
served. ,
Hensall Arena Friday evening,
Hensall vs Huron Park; Hensall
defeated Huron Park 4$. Kenny
Varley got the hat trick with three
goals, Les Oonsitt a single for
Hensall.
Huron Park's Cronin got two
goals, P.Regier a single.
Miss ',Sherry Travers was
successful in passing 'the grade
two theory examination of the
Royal Conservatory of Music,
with honours. Her teacher is
Miss Greta Laramie,.

Capt. William S. Clarke, a
Territorial Evangelist with the
Salvation Army and presently
resident in Hamilton, Ontario,
spent several days last week
visiting the Luthers tnIensxll, -
Prior to his becoming an
_officer with the Salvation Army
he was a Field Secretary with
Canadian National Institute for
the Blind at Windsor, Ontario.
Capt. Clarke has travelled ex-
tensively across Canada in his
capacity as a Territorial Eian-
gelist and has also conducted
campaigns in Bermuda. He is
sometimes referred to as the
blind evangelist. He is an ac-
complished musician and a very
talented speaker. During hiS
brief stay in Hensall he ac-
. companled Mrs. Luther to
several senior citizens homes in
this area where he played and
sang.
LEGION LADIES AUXILIARY
The Legion Ladies Auxiliary
met Tuesda,y evening with 1st
vice president, Mrs. Howard
Smale presiding.
They accepted en application
for a new member and reported
that they had made enough money
from the proceeds of the money
doll draw for free skating at the
arena for the children Wednes-
days and Saturdays for the month
.of February. ,They will hold a
draw for an Easter basket' of

cost of transporting your son to
and from the clinic each week.
The only amount you may claim
is the monies paid_ to either the
doctor . or to the clinic for the
actual treatment your, son
receives.
