ESTC accepts assistance from county Ec. Dev. Board
Turning some heads
The Blyth BIA has been out and about recently judging Christmas lights throughout the village
and they came up with a winner Friday night: the Ditner family of Drummond Street. Sharon
Davis, left, from the BIA was on hand to present the family with their prize, a gift certificate to
the Part II Bistro. From left: Davis, Glen, Janelle, Jana and Caleigh Ditner. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
North Huron has accepted help
from the Huron County Economic
Development Board regarding the
governance and future of Blyth’s
Emergency Services Training
Centre.
In a report presented to council at
its Dec. 16 committee of the whole
meeting, Economic Development
Manager Natasha Fritzley brought
councillors up to speed, saying that
North Huron Chief Administrative
Officer Sharon Chambers had
reached out to the county, saying she
was committed to turning the centre
around.
Earlier this year, North Huron Fire
Chief David Sparling requested
funds from the county for a number
of projects at the centre. The request
was denied, but the Economic
Development Board, which received
the request, offered its help in terms
of advice and restructuring ideas.
After several months, Chambers
reached out to the county on Dec. 7,
saying that North Huron would
love to have input from the county
on how to make the centre
profitable.
“The Economic Development
Board is, however, of the opinion
that the facilities in Blyth could offer
tremendous opportunities for the
Emergency Services Training Centre
and the local community,” Fritzley
said in her report. “The Economic
Development Board also indicated a
willingness to make
recommendations as to the re-
structure and organization of the
Emergency Services Training
Centre, should North Huron make
such a request.”
Fritzley said that the county is
more than happy to help the centre
and is hopeful that if some changes
are made, perhaps the Economic
Development Board could take a
second look at the centre’s initial
grant request and perhaps provide
some assistance in the future.
