Grade 1A class had some unique
ideas when The Citizen asked what
they felt Santa Claus would have for
his Christmas dinner.
“Santa Claus has bread and milk
for dinner because he doesn’t have
time to eat a big meal. He has just
enough time to sit down and eat his
bread and drink his milk but he does
it very quick. That’s okay, though,
because he eats a lot of cookies.”
Vanessa Albrecht
“My family hunts deer and I bet he
does too so I think he has deer. He
doesn’t hunt though, he has his elves
help him and hunt for him. We load
ours up and go to the butcher and he
sends some of ours to Santa. We
hunt deer for Santa. He likes jerky.”
Jeffrey Bauer
“I think he has chicken because
it’s probably his favourite. I like the
skin on the chicken and I think he
does too. He also has corn with his
chicken but he has magic corn that is
very juicy, but not messy and dry.”
Madison Bragan
“I think Santa has chicken because
you can eat chicken forever because
of all the different kinds of chicken.
You can have chicken burgers and
chicken fingers and chicken nuggets
and chicken salad and chicken and
vegetables and all kinds of chicken.
On Christmas Santa has chicken
noodle soup and chicken legs.”
Damian Detzler-Ashley
“I think Santa would have turkey
because that’s the kind of supper
you’re supposed to have on
Christmas. He would have fruit salad
and stuffing with his turkey because
you’re supposed to have that too.”
Liam Fischer
“I think Santa Claus would have
turkey, peas and potatoes for dinner.
I think that’s the food he eats. He
likes mashed potatoes and he has it
with butter and gravy because it
tastes better that way.”
Rowan Gaspire
“I think Santa and Mrs. Claus
would feed their reindeer apples, but
not themselves. They would eat
carrots, cucumbers, grapes and
oranges because they are healthy and
good for you and Santa needs to
have what’s good for you.”
Maddy Hickling
“I think he eats chocolate chip
cookies at Christmas. He eats 20
cookies. He just eats them because
he likes them.”
Payton Illman
“I don’t know what Santa eats. No
one can see him because he hides at
the North Pole. That’s a silly
question.”
Lexus Jenken
“I think Santa has turkey because
he likes turkey because turkey is his
favourite food. He doesn’t have
potatoes or anything else, he just has
turkey with gravy on it.”
Seth Kerr
“I think Santa has cookies and
milk because every night we put that
out so we can be good and he can
give us presents. That’s how he eats
all year, he takes the cookies from
good kids and stores them and eats
them and then leaves presents for the
good kids.”
Reagan Laidlaw
“I think Santa Claus eats a
skateboard for Christmas dinner. He
rides it and then eats it. It’s a special
skateboard and the wheels are made
of chocolate chip cookies and the
rest is made of gingerbread. He also
has milk with his skateboard.”
Maxx Logan
“I believe Santa Claus has apple
soup because he likes apple soup.
It’s made of real apples. I haven’t
had it before, but I think it tastes
yucky because there are apples in it.
I like apples, but apple soup would
be yucky.”
Abi McNaught
“I bet Santa likes turkey for dinner.
On Christmas it helps him get his
energy back from going to all the
houses and giving out all the
presents.”
Owen Mulvey
“Turkey is what Santa eats and he
does that because it’s Christmas. He
has chicken too. He eats the whole
chicken for dinner and a whole
turkey and then he has beef and stir-
fry, bone soup, chicken noodle soup
and milk to drink.”
Triston Piper
“Santa likes chocolate ice cream
because it tastes so good. It’s the
best kind of ice cream and he eats for
everything, not just dessert and not
just Christmas.”
Seder Ryan
“I think Santa likes turkey because
it’s a Christmas thing. He
likes stuffing too. He has
mashed potatoes and gravy
and a bun and butter and everything
people eat for Christmas.”
Hannah Silcock
“Santa has cookies and milk. He
really likes cookies and milk. He has
chocolate chip cookies and regular
milk. He doesn’t like chocolate milk
with his cookies.”
Olivia Van Beek
“Santa eats turkey, chicken and
potato chips for dinner, water for a
drink and has strawberries for
dessert.”

secret, but also make sure that
people know what kind of things
their gift recipients are looking for.
The site allows users to not only
set up their Secret Santa, but also
allows those involved to create gift
lists so that it takes some of the
guess work out of finding the right
gift.
“It’s helped out a lot, that’s for
sure,” Kroes said, noting the only
downside was that everyone had to
sign up before the program could be
used, so sometimes it runs later than
some people would like.
After the gifts are handed out and
the games are done, the family
enjoys some traditional snacks
including eggnog and oliebollen, a
traditional Dutch doughnut or
dumpling that Kroes said the family
enjoys.
The family also enjoys some time
with extended family as part of
Christmas, Kroes explained, visiting
her paternal relatives on Christmas
Eve and having lunch with her
maternal relatives on Christmas
Day.
