They had a good turnout for the draw with four sheets of ice full of players. The last night of the draw was celebrated with tasty snacks, the ugliest sweater prize presentation and a viewing of the 50th anniversary video from last spring presented by Gary Pipe. A special treat was the appearance of Orval Bauer, who with Ruth dropped by to say hello and wish everyone Merry Christmas. He reports that he misses the curling, but will be awhile recovering from his accident. It was nice to see Orval and wish him well in his recovery. The prize for the ugliest Christmas sweater went to Danica Zwep for her sweater with the light-up fireplace on it. Other sweaters included Jennie Schimanski and her Christmas toilet seat cover attached to her sweater and Merv Bauer with his sweater decorated with bows, candy canes, suckers and a bell that would tinkle when he walked. President MaryAnn Thompson wore a winter scene sweater with poinsettias pinned on it and a string of flashing lights and her Christmas pyjama pants. A couple of the men, Jack Pipe with snowman and Doug Bremner with poinsettias, thought wearing women’s sweaters would make them winners. Steve Steiss thought a Toronto Maple Leaf jersey should qualify for ugliest sweater, but the judges went with the burning fireplace as the winner. The winners of the first draw was the team of Steve Steiss, Danica Zwep, 47; second, Murray Hoover and team members, 45; third, George Zwep’s team, 38 and Steve Knight’s team, 37. The final four teams were: Darrell Uhler’s, 30; Jo- Ann McDonald, Mary Bernard, Jennie Schimanski, Doug Bremner, 24; Merv Bauer’s team, 20 and Carman Bernard’s team, 18.
