Both Alexi and Amy were in
Goderich on Dec. 16 to thank the
paramedics and assist in the awards
ceremony.
Two pairs of paramedics were also
recognized with Lifesaver Awards.
Horseman presented Xavier
O’Krafka and Mason Halstead with
the award for a cardiac arrest save on
July 2, 2014 and to Eric Koopman
and Rebecca Barras also for a
cardiac save on Aug. 23, 2014.
O’Krafka and Halstead responded
to a residence in Wingham to assist a
patient that had suffered a cardiac
arrest. Once on scene these two
paramedics found the patient had no
vital signs. They attached a
defibrillator and managed to restore
a pulse and breathing before
transporting the individual to the
Wingham Hospital emergency room
for additional care.

You can’t help but notice it is the
season when churches and schools
hold their Christmas concerts and
pageants much to the delight of
parents and grandparents sitting out
in the audiences.
In Auburn this past week it was no
exception when Huron Chapel held
its Sunday school Christmas
pageant. It all began with the classic
church potluck supper in the
gymnasium, however, I did notice
there were shrimp and pizza in the
offering, thus perhaps exceeding the
label of “classic”.
The church sanctuary was full as
each Sunday school class from the
youngest preschoolers to the
teenagers in the youth class
participated in presenting their
message of what Christmas meant to
them.
At the end of the service the youth
handed out bags of candy to each
person as they left.
I was fortunate enough to talk to
The Citizen reporter Denny
Scott about my family Christmas
recently.
The story can be found on page 23.
