Lack of snow leads
to dreary landscapes
We are all enjoying the weather
and the lack of snow, no shovelling,
no treacherous driving on roads, no
struggling to get shopping to cars
and no scraping windshields – all
bonuses to having no snow. But
having no snow also makes things
look dreary and dark.
The few Christmas lights we have
seen don’t seem as bright and
cheery. The flocks of Canada Geese
that should have headed south are
still hanging around and the winter
wheat crop is wondering should it
start growing again or not! The usual
cold, crisp air of December would
normally kill off some of the “bugs”
but they are still hanging around.
Flies, bees and lady bugs are
crawling around windowsills and
then the unseen cold and flu bugs are
out there. A little snow for
Christmas would be nice to brighten
things but I guess we will wait and
see. Many things can happen in the
next 10 days before Christmas!
Our get well wishes go out to
Wallace Bell who is a patient in
Clinton Public Hospital at this time.
We hope he is still feeling better and
home again.
I’m pleased to report that Orval
Bauer is home and is on the slowly
but surely, road to recovery. It will
take some time for all the fractures
to heal, but we hope he comes along
well.

A holiday tradition
North Woods Elementary School, and before it Grey Central Public School, has been serving
its students Christmas dinner for one special day every year for a number of years and this
year was no exception. Parents, from left, Jenn Nicholson, Heather Logan, Karen Smith,
Tammi Lindsay, Mercedes Sheppard, Alicia Smith and Mandy Cochrane were busy
volunteering their afternoon to serve students, from left, Claire McCutcheon, Alveena Zafar,
Brooke Laffin, Adel Fisher and Kiley Nicholson. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
Family Christmases celebrated
Christmas parties are normal for
this time of year and this past
weekend the Machan family of
Blyth was no exception. The Walton
Hall was their meeting place and
Sarah and Korey Machan of Walton
were the organizers. They enjoyed a
great night of food, fun, presents and
Christmas cheer to celebrate the
season.
The Beuermann siblings gathered
at the home of Ron and Betty
McCallum to celebrate their
Christmas together on Saturday
evening. The family of seven
brothers and sisters and their
spouses enjoyed a dinner provided
by the Walton Hall Board Ladies.
The clan includes Sharon, Dale,
Valerie, Elaine, Dennis, Neil and
Betty. They enjoyed a dinner and a
lovely social evening together.
The McClure family Christmas
was held at the Dublin Pavillion this
year. It was the 19th time they have
gathered and the oldest sibling Bill
McClure and wife Sharon hosted.
They enjoyed a potluck meal for the
approximately 55 in attendance,
which means a feast and variety of
dishes. The sibling farthest away is
Ray McClure from Forrestburg,
Alberta and he was in attendance.
The whole group gathers to enjoy
the 12:30 p.m. meal and afternoon
of visiting and fun.
Later on, the siblings stay and
enjoy leftovers and a quieter visit. It
is great that the clan continue the
tradition to gather and remain close.
The Glanville clan gathered at the
Walton Inn on Saturday morning for
a farewell breakfast for Art
Glanville. Art is returning to Prince
Albert, Saskatchewan after a two
week visit with the family and
friends in the area. Saying their
goodbyes included brothers Lorne
and Bonnie, Lloyd and Mabel, Ken
and Betty, Les, Roy and sisters
Eileen and friend, Marjorie and
Richard, and friend Pearl
McCallum.
The family of Marie Blake
gathered at St. Ambrose Church for
their family Christmas on Sunday
afternoon. About 60 enjoyed a
delicious meal provided by Cardiff
Catering at lunch time. The day was
organized by Jim and Evelyn Blake
for Marie and an enjoyable
afternoon was spent visiting and
enjoying the commotion of little
ones!
Welcome back to Margery
Huether who has returned to
Huronlea after a brief stint in a
London hospital. We hope she is
doing well.
Highland Apartments welcomed a
new friend this week. Nell Bentinck
has joined the family of residents in
the apartment and we hope she
settles in nicely.
It was birthday party time for our
family again as we celebrated the
third birthday of our oldest grandson
Connor in New Hamburg. We
enjoyed a late afternoon gathering
with munchies and then subs with
Adam and Kelly, Connor and Owen
and LeeAnn and members of the
Jarosz family. Scott and family were
unable to attend due to the flu!
Happy birthday to Connor!
Celebrating birthdays this past
week include Evan Ducharme,
Cheryl Mader, Margaret Whitmore,
Emma Taylor, Destiny Dunbar,
