Youth enjoy wagon ride, carolling in Auburn
Last Sunday I was preaching on a
scripture that I have always been
very passionate about. I must have
been quite exuberant in my sermon
delivery that morning because after
the service I greeted a little boy who
looked up at me and with a
troublesome look on his face he said,
“You were yelling today.”
On the evening of Dec. 9, the kids
from Huron Chapel were much
happier than this little boy as they
climbed up onto a hay wagon parked
at the church. It was that time of year
when Heirborn, a mid-week children
ministry of the church, set out into
the streets of Auburn to sing
Christmas carols. The towing power
came from Geert Datema of Auburn
who brought over his tractor
decorated with Christmas lights just
for the occasion.
After the carolling, everyone went
back to the church where there was
hot chocolate, hot apple cider and
many goodies waiting to be
consumed. Jim Campbell went along
as one of the adult supervisors and
was happy to report how one Auburn
resident came out to see the kids and
gave him a Merry Christmas hug.
Jim also shared that one resident
gave him food for the local food
bank even though the kids were not
collecting. So it was a very good
night.
I was so glad this week to be
invited to come back and speak at
the Women’s Institute of Auburn’s
Christmas luncheon this year at the
village’s Memorial Hall.
I was pleasantly surprised to see
some of the husbands there this time.
The guys and I quickly formed a
huddle in the room where we talked
about sports, farming and how much
we love living where we
do before sitting down to a delicious
meal.
It was such a nice afternoon. I
remember laughing a lot and getting
to know some new wonderful
people.
In case you are looking to fill your
Christmas calendar, on Dec. 20 there
will be a potluck supper at Huron
Chapel beginning at 5:45 p.m. which
will be followed by the Sunday
school’s Christmas pageant at 7 p.m.
Also, on Christmas Eve we will be
holding our service at 7 p.m. We
hope to see you there.
Mobile caroling
Auburn was filled with music on Dec. 9 when the Heirborn ministry, part of the Huron Chapel
Evangelical Missionary Church in the village, took to the streets to sing Christmas carols
throughout the village. The singing, provided by the youth of the group, was done from the
back of a hay wagon and was followed up by a special fellowship and snack time at the chapel
after the ride. (Mark Royall photo)

It’s Christmas
Look on the calendar for any big occasion, whether it be Easter,
Thanksgiving or Christmas and the Blyth Legion is there hosting a
special night of Bingo for the community. Last week was no
different, as the village’s local branch hosted an evening of gaming
that could help some winners along with their Christmas shopping.
Calling out the numbers and notifying winners of their winning
status were Ethan Scrimgeour, left, and Brenda Finlayson, right.

Getting the scoop
Huron Christian School’s Christmas concert, called
‘Mayhem in Bethlehem’ took on the guise of a newscast.
The show, held on Dec. 9, featured new-age broadcasting
focused on the biblical tale of Christ’s birth. Shown is an
interview with the wise men, featuring, from left: Nadine
VanBreda, Zoe Nyman and Julia Waanders. (Denny Scott photo)
