We hum along, or outright sing to the favourites. So if we pick, – “well the weather outside is frightful…”, it probably means we’re ready for a little snow for the season. But like so much of life, our choices are fairly limited on some aspects of life and so the snow and Christmas are not ours to fix, whatever your preference. This mild December we are having is also weird for the plants and animals in our midst. The squirrels are getting down right chubby with the extra feeding time and the primulas at Tara and Murray Pipes think it is spring already. Surprises are coming for all. School concerts were the chat of many proud parents and grandparents as the area schools celebrated the season with song, dance and story. Memories are made at functions such as these. Don’t you remember holding the letters C* H* R* I* S* T* M* A* S* as the class sang the words or giggling as “I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” was belted out. Christmas rituals all are part of this time. A time to think of others and a time to make the world a better place, one deed at a time. So the kids once again did the older set proud. One of the Brussels traditions for community is the Christmas Choral Night, held on Sunday evening at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church. The Ministerial sets up the evening and the local church choirs take it from there. Favourite selections are sung, timely scripture is read and everyone Aesthetics by Bonnie * Waxing * European Facials * Foot Care for Seniors * Gift Certificates Available * Manicures & Pedicures (men too) 791 Sports Drive, Brussels 519-887-6661 CAFÉ More than just a great sandwich! 401 Turnberry St., Brussels 519-887-8011 Ask about our frozen entrées Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for a safe and happy New Year from everyone at Cinnamon Jim’s Holiday Hours December 24 Closed at 2 pm Reopening Monday, December 28 December 31 Closed at 2 pm Reopening Monday, January 4 By Betty Graber Watson Call 887-9231 A NOTE FROM BETTY Choosing the big winners Brussels Legion Branch 218 members Lisa Glanville, left, and Sandra Josling were in charge of drawing names at the “Boost the Build” meat draw at the Legion on Saturday. (Denny Scott photo) At the Branch Meat draw fundraiser a success By Jo-Ann McDonald It has been busy around the Brussels Legion Branch this week. The construction is progressing nicely and the Branch hosted a “Boost the Build” fundraiser on Saturday. Over 80 people turned out to support the Branch in its meat draws and wing night. There were 36 happy winners at the end of the night going home with turkeys, hams and shrimp rings and one extra happy winner going home with the mega prize of over $150 in meat! It was a great night with lots of members helping to make it a success. The cooks included new members Tyler Verbeek, Ryan Shaw, Mark Campbell and Ron Schmidt. Running was Jim Brown and kitchen help included Mabel Glanville, Nanci Ducharme and Sharon Robbins. The draw was in the hands of Sandra Josling, Lisa Glanville, Joan Smith, Daisy Wong Schmidt, Deb Ross and BJ Hummel. A great job by all. The week of activities also included preparing the funeral lunch for the family of Doug Evans. The funeral was held at the Ethel Fire Hall and the lunch as well. Preparing the lunch were Linda Bird and friend Linda Meier, Jean Bridge, Mabel Glanville and travelling to Ethel to serve the lunch were Linda Bird, Mabel, Jo-Ann and Rick McDonald.
