Wingham, Blyth host Midget Silver Stick tourney
Teams in the ‘B’ and ‘C’ Midget
divisions of the International Silver
Stick tournament gathered in North
Huron over the past week to crown
the best team in the region.
While local teams were absent
from the top finishers, with South
Bruce winning the ‘C’ bracket and
Tavistock winning the ‘B’
championships in over-time, both
Blyth Brussels and Wingham were
able to top their respective round-
robins.
The Blyth Brussels Midget
Crusaders won all three of their
round-robin games, besting West
Grey 1-0 on Nov. 16, topping
Seaforth 2-1 in an exciting, down-to-
the-wire match on Saturday morning
in Blyth and beating Bruce Peninsula
5-1 later that day, also in Blyth.
Unfortunately, Blyth’s three-game
winning streak came to an end in the
semi-finals of the contest when they
faced off against South Bruce and
were beaten 3-1 in Wingham.
Wingham made it to the finals
after winning two and tying one of
its round-robin games then besting
Minto in its semi-final match 2-1,
but the squad was beaten by
Tavistock in the finals.
Games were held at both the North
Huron Wescast Community
Complex (NHWC) in Wingham and
the Blyth and District Community
Centre.
The Atom Silver Stick tournament
will kick off in Wingham on Sunday,
Nov. 29 with games scheduled all
week at the NHWC as well as
several games scheduled on
Saturday, Dec. 5 in Blyth.
Blyth Brussels will take to the ice
against Chatsworth (TCDMHA) on
Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 8:25 p.m. in
Wingham and will then play two
games in Blyth on Dec. 5; Seaforth
at 9 a.m. and Minto at 2:30 p.m.

sung. The scripture was from 2
Samuel 23:1-7 and John 18:33-37.
The children were invited to come to
the front for their story time.
Lannon had a bag full of hats and
asked the children who they thought
would wear each of the hats. She had
a wide-brimmed hat, maybe for a
gardener, a cowboy hat for a cow-
boy, a police hat for a police officer
and a crown for a queen or king.
She told the children that Jesus did
not wear a crown or fancy clothes
like the kings of His time. She told
the children that even though we
can’t see Jesus we know He is with
us. We should do our best to follow
Jesus.
The children said a prayer along
with the congregation and went
downstairs for their time of
fellowship. The next hymn “I am the
Light of the World” was sung. The
choir sang the anthem “Heaven’s
Jubilee,” directed by Katie
Dockstader.
Ms. Lannon’s message to the
congregation was “Who Does He
Think He Is?” Sunday was New
Year’s Eve in the Christian calendar,
or it is also called Reign of Christ
Sunday, reminding Christians who is
in charge and offering a time to
reflect. In the scriptures on Sunday,
Pontius Pilate is questioning Jesus
as to who Jesus thinks He is. Jesus
answers that He is the Truth. Jesus is
referred to as a king but He is never
dressed like a king, He is a healer,
He washes His disciples’ feet. He
doesn’t think of Himself as a king.
He teaches us that we are all
welcome in God’s world. We show
others that we are like Jesus by our
actions.
The hymn “At the Name of Jesus”
was sung. The offering was received
followed by the offertory response
“We Give Thee But Thine Own,” the
offertory prayer, the prayers for the
people, silent prayers and the
singing of the Lord’s Prayer led by
Emily Phillips. The last hymn
“Crown Him With Many Crowns”
was followed by the Benediction
and the singing of the “Three Fold
Amen.” Everyone was invited for
coffee, treats and fellowship before
going home.
