Obituaries
Former ‘Citizen’ correspondent celebrates anniversary
It was a cold, wet, windy Oct. 30,
1965 when James Thomas
McMahon and Margaret Ellen
Hamilton exchanged wedding vows
at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic
Church in Hesson.
The bride was the daughter of Earl
and Alice Hamilton of Listowel and
James was the son of James and
Elizabeth McMahon of Linwood.
Their attendants were the bride’s
sister Marie Hamilton and best man
was Russell McMahon.
Following the wedding, a
celebratory supper was held in
Linwood at the home of the groom’s
parents.
Margaret and James lived in
Bridgeport, Kitchener and St.
Clements before moving their
family – children Michele and
Shawn to a farm on the fourth
concession of Grey in Huron
County. Here they were involved
with the dairy, pork and beef
industries.
For over 10 years, Margaret was
the Ethel correspondent for The
Citizen.
In 2008, they decided to retire and
purchased a home in Gorrie.
Their family has since increased to
include three grandchildren,
Geoffrey El-Tantawy and Erin and
Russell McMahon.
On Sunday, Oct. 24 a come and go
celebration was held, followed by a
potluck supper in the Gorrie Hall.
Those helping to celebrate came
from Kitchener, Linwood, St.
Marys, Bluevale, Crosshill,
Brussels, Palmerston, Elmira,
Monkton, Gorrie and Listowel.
A big start
The first publicized donation to the Wingham and District Hospital Foundation’s “Our Hospital,
Our Future” $4 million build campaign for upgrades to the hospital and medical campus (the
former Wingham Public School) was received on Nov. 5 from Joe Kerr Limited. The company,
represented above by children of the employees, pledged $100,000 over five years as part of
the company’s on-going commitment to the community. Shown are, back row, from left:
