In addition, the report states that a year of operation under G2G Inc. would help gather important information for the county. “Since G2G Inc. signed an interim lease with the Province in July, 2015, the trail is proceeding under the direction of this non-profit organization,” the report states. “One year of operation of the trail by G2G Inc. would provide important information to County Council on the potential costs and issues associated with the trail before further consideration of signing the lease.” The report states that the Working Committee has made progress in addressing a number of issues raised by adjoining landowners and farm organizations, which was one of council’s biggest concerns. “The committee has: • Worked through the compiled list of concerns regarding the rail trail. Policies and best practices were documented as solutions to address these concerns. • Recognized the importance of biosecurity and as a result, a biosecurity expert from OMAFRA (the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs) presented at a recent meeting. • Developed a communication that was sent to all adjacent landowners in July. • In its final role, two open house, drop-in dates are scheduled for Nov. 26 and Nov. 28. The Open House events will be an opportunity for the public to discuss matters and future plans with G2G Inc. board members and the G2G Working Committee.” The Working Committee has also compiled a detailed list that runs through concerns with the trail. It identifies the concerns raised and addresses them with comments and potential solutions, providing details with processes that could help solve any problem. For example, the suggestion that the trail will decrease property values is debunked, according to the report. It cites a statistics report by Sara Wilhelm that says land values of property along a trail will actually increase by 10 per cent. Every concern raised over the course of the process has been included in the report. For full coverage of council’s decision on the trail, and extensive details from the report, read next week’s issue of The Citizen.
