MEETING NOTICE Municipality of Morris-Turnberry The upcoming meetings for the Municipality of Morris-Turnberry will be held: Tuesday, November 3 at 7:30 p.m. Regular Council Meeting Tuesday, November 10 at 9:00 a.m. Training Exercise Tuesday, November 17 at 7:30 p.m. Regular Council Meeting Wednesday, November 18 at 7:30 p.m. Budget Meeting More seasonal weather has arrived with cool mornings and nights, but some pleasant afternoon temperatures. It makes it hard to know how to dress, but layers are always the best bet. There are many sad baseball fans around after the Toronto Blue Jays lost Game 6 of the American League Championship series to the Kansas City Royals last Friday evening. The hope of Canadians fans to have the Jays playing in the World Series were dashed in a nail-biting ninth inning. Our consolation is that Canadians were united in a common goal to cheer on our great Canadian team. Everyone talked about the Jays, watched the Jays, dressed as the Jays and now will share in the disappointment of the Jays. Great year, great job Jays and now we will wait until next year and start hoping and cheering all over again! If I was a betting person, I would bet that the Blue Jays games were part of the conversation at the Brussels birthday girls monthly party. The October babies included Betty Cardiff and Laura Barbour. The group gathered as JR’s to enjoy a ham and scalloped potato dinner. They were 17 strong in number including the two birthday girls plus Isabelle Wheeler, Betty McCutcheon, Jane Hall, Betty Campbell, Bev Palmer, Marie McCutcheon, Nelva Scott, Alice Marks, Leona Armstrong, Lois McCutcheon, Merle Cousins, Marci Bremner, Audrey Cardiff, Dale Chesher and Nora Stephenson. Happy birthday ladies! Leona Armstrong made it home from her sisters’ yearly get-together trip in time for the birthday party. Leona had joined her sisters, Helen McLean ( St. Catharines) and Doris McKinley (London) for a four day trip to Mackinac Island. They went to with Hanover Tours and she reports it was wonderful. They stayed in Frankenmuth, Michigan the first night of their journey to the island. They went by boat across to the Island, where they were picked up by horse drawn wagons. There are no cars on the island, so horsepower is one way to get around. The island has bicycles as the alternative to horses for transportation. They stayed at the Grand Hotel – a magnificent building. It features a 660-foot porch, the longest in the world. Beautiful rooms and the ritual of serving “high tea” is observed everyday. A harpist played every evening and the ladies were waited on hand and foot. It was a lovely trip and the colours of the trees were breathtaking. Leona reports a lovely trip was enjoyed by the three sisters. Our condolences to the Watson family on the passing of Alma Watson. She will be missed by her children Ralph, John and Mary and their families. A lovely lady that I had only met a few times over the years. Our sympathies to all Our condolences to the family of Ross Nichol, who passed away last week. He will be missed by his children Margaret, Hugh and Paul and their families and step-children Gayle and Janet and families. Ross was a very quiet man and always pleasant to speak with. He was a farmer and a bus driver, who is remembered fondly by his former students. Our sympathies to all. Our condolences to the family of Ruth Schade, formerly of Winthrop/Walton area. She will be missed by daughters Jane and Nancy and their families. Ruth had made her home at Maplewood Retirement Home in Seaforth the last few years and will be missed for her fun-loving ways by all. Our sympathies to all. Our condolences to Marni and Steve Knight and family on the passing of Marni’s sister Flo. Marni had been in B.C. with her and our thoughts and prayers are with her at this difficult time. Our sympathy to all. The final event at the Walton Raceway was held on the weekend. The mudbog races had a good turnout of a variety of vehicles. Hard to tell what they were after playing in the mud! Time for the Raceway crew to rest and start making plans for next year’s events! Celebrating birthdays this past week include Brett Lee, Lois McCall, Janice McCallum McGillvary, Michael Parr, Doug Bauer, Wayne Todd, Andrew Groothuis, Teresa Baan, Tanner Leslie, Dan Taylor, Megan Flaxbard, Murray Dennis, Douglas Wey, Shannon McGavin, John Steffler, Carol Humphries, Brianna Williamson, Helen Boven, and Liam Sutcliffe. Happy birthday to all. By Jo-Ann McDonald Call 887-6570 PEOPLE AROUND WALTON NEWS FROM WALTON Wild weather welcome While the heavy rain over the weekend may have been cursed by some as it caused cancellations of events, for an event like the mudbog, the final event at the Walton Raceway for the season, it was perfect. Trucks and their drivers tried to keep slogging through the deep mud at the track on Sunday hoping to win first prize in the event.
