With a January deadline looming
to prove the organization can raise
more than $3 million to fund
renovations at Memorial Hall, the
Blyth Arts and Cultural Initiative
14/19 committee has announced its
major fundraising campaigns.
During North Huron Township
Council’s Sept. 21 meeting, 14/19
Administrator Karen Stewart
explained that, after meeting with
the 14/19 campaign cabinet, a case
for support and campaign materials,
featuring the art work of Randy
Jones, was created.
“This will set us apart from other
villages,” Stewart said. “This will
share our story with the world,
which we can leverage for growth.”
The documentation explains that
the group is committed to
revitalizing Blyth Memorial Hall,
growing the Grant and Mildred
Sparling Centre, home of the
Canadian Centre for Rural Creativity
(CCRC) and sustaining a trust that
will bring educational opportunities,
through the CCRC, to Blyth and the
surrounding area.
Stewart also explained that a for-
profit fund, called the Blyth
Community Bond, will be
established increasing the ability to
find funding opportunities.
The fundraising campaign will
consist of capital naming
opportunities, the 14/19 champions,
corporate grants and fundraising
opportunities.
Stewart explained that many of the
projects to be undertaken by 14/19
will require approval from the
township including naming
opportunities for facilities at Blyth
Memorial Hall and donor
recognition efforts. She said that the
council will be kept up-to-date on
such projects.
Stewart also asked the council to
be cultural ambassadors for 14/19.
“We feel strongly that council
members can become ambassadors
for the area,” she said. “As you travel
the region, promote North Huron as
Huron’s cultural capital.
“Help us promote business
development and endorse North
Huron as a place in which to invest
and live by drawing on the cultural
assets we can offer,” she said.
