Total receipts for Brussels Livestock for the week ending Sept. 11 were 1,461 cattle and 902 lambs and goats. On Tuesday fed steers and heifers sold at easier prices. Choice steers and heifers sold $184 to $187. Second cut sold $181 to $184. Cows sold actively at easier prices. On Thursday veal sold on a very strong active trade with holstein calves selling $10 to $15 higher from last week and beef calves strong and steady. Light lambs sold steady with heavy lambs selling steady to higher. Sheep sold stronger. Goats sold steady with nannies selling higher. On Friday calves and yearlings sold on an active trade at steady prices. Andrew Black of Proton Station, consigned 24 steers that averaged 1,572 lbs. and sold for an average price of $185.77. Seven black steers averaged 1,581 lbs. and sold to Clark Bros. Livestock for an average price of $186.75. Bruce Eden Farms of Holyrood, consigned 12 steers that averaged 1,550 lbs. and sold for an average price of $185.44. Six black steers averaged 1,578 lbs. and sold to St. Helen’s Meat Packers for an average price of $186.25. Noah Weppler of Ayton, consigned seven cattle that averaged 1,306 lbs. and sold for an average price of $183.89. One charolais heifer weighed 1,360 lbs. and sold to Clark Bros. Livestock for $185.50. Greg Hackett of Lucknow, consigned seven heifers that averaged 1,319 lbs. and sold for an average price of $183.55. Four charolais heifers averaged 1,388 lbs. and sold to Clark Bros. Livestock for an average price of $185.25. There were 168 cows on offer. Export types sold $108 to $112 with sales to $115; beef, $114 to $119 with sales to $121; D1 and D2, $105 to $108; D3, $80 to $105; D4, $68 to $80. Ger Miedema of Brucefield, consigned one blonde cow that weighed 1,610 lbs. and sold for $119. There were six bulls selling $145 to $173. Tom Hawkins of Wingham, consigned one limousin bull that weighed 2,325 lbs. and sold for $173. There were 153 head of veal on offer. Beef sold $200 to $230 with sales to $250; good holsteins, $170 to $194 with sales to $196; medium holsteins, $150 to $170; heavy holsteins, $160 to $170. Lamar Frey of Listowel, consigned three heifers that averaged 923 lbs. and sold for an average price of $215.77. Two blonde heifers averaged 910 lbs. and sold for $224. Spencer Reid of Walton, consigned six steers that averaged 771 lbs. and sold for an average price of $184.21. One holstein-cross steer weighed 730 lbs. and sold for $211. Mike and Tina Metske of Lucknow, consigned three steers that averaged 682 lbs. and sold for an average price of $185.32. One holstein steer weighed 625 lbs. and sold for $196. Lambs, 50 - 64 lbs. sold $285 to $296; 65 - 79 lbs., $268 to $293; 80 - 94 lbs., $212 to $239; 95 - 110 lbs., $211 - $217 / lb. Sheep sold $100 to $135. Goats: kids sold $150 to $300; nannies, $100 to $170; billies, $150 to $250. Top quality stocker steers, under 400 lbs. sold $383 to $407; 400 - 499 lbs., $347 - $380; 500 - 599 lbs., $322 to $339; 600 - 699 lbs., $295 to $335; 700 - 799 lbs., $279 to $319; 800 - 899 lbs., $257 to $273; 900 - 999 lbs., $243 to $262; 1,000 lbs. and over, $233 to $249. Top quality stocker heifers, 300 - 399 lbs. sold $308 to $370; 400 - 499 lbs., $302 to $355; 500 - 599 lbs., $302 to $340; 600 - 699 lbs., $265 to $312; 700 - 799 lbs., $240 to $257; 800 - 899 lbs., $233 to $249; 900 lbs. and over, $211 to $240. David Allison of Riverbank, NB, consigned 60 charolais steers that averaged 851 lbs. and sold for an average price of $268.09. Sixteen steers averaged 911 lbs. and sold for an average price of $262. Abner Sauder of West Montrose, consigned 12 charolais heifers that averaged 1,062 lbs. and sold for an average price of $218. The Huron Soil and Crop Improvement Association hosted a special event at the Huronview Demonstration Farm south of Clinton highlighting the site and some enhancements in soil innovations on Sept. 9.
