Happy anniversary to Linda and Irvin Pease, who celebrate Sept. 18. Threshers weekend has come and gone for this year. Although the attendance was down this weekend there were many things to see and do and lots of music to listen to. As far as most reports go everyone had a good time, even if they had to hunt out their warmer clothes. Mitts, jackets and hats were visible throughout the grounds over the course of the weekend. The Swinging Seniors will hold a meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at Blyth Memorial Hall at noon with a potluck lunch. Come out and enjoy the fun and entertainment.By Marilyn Craig Call 523-9318 From Marilyn’s Desk Breakfast ahead One of the most public signs that the annual reunion of the Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby Association is in Blyth has to be the annual breakfast parade, which sees antique tractors travel to a restaurant in a nearby community for breakfast on the Thursday before the show . This year the Jam Jar Pub and Eatery in Brussels was the place to see some tractors and catch some breakfast. (Denny Scott photo) Elementary school enrolment holds steady in area Schools across the area welcomed students for their first day of the 2015/2016 term on Sept. 8 and many of them were welcoming some students and teachers for the first time. Maitland River Elementary School has 483 students, approximately the same as the previous year. The school welcomed several new staff members including new Principal Angela Cowley. New faces at the school include STRIVE educational assistant Kelsey Johnston, Kim Cooke is the new TRA in the library and Juliet Middelkamp is the designated early childhood educator at Maitland River. Stephanie Bloemberg has been recruited as the Kindergarten C teacher and Hillary Johnston was brought on to teach Grades 1A and 4C/5A to cover a maternity leave. Lisa teRaa has also joined the school as an educational assistant. The school also has a new addition to its grounds. During a special presentation on Sept. 11, through fundraising by the Building Bridges to our Future committee, a new piece of playground equipment was opened. Hullett Central Public School welcomed 280 students this year, slightly up from last year’s 275, and greeted several new additions to its staff as well as some familiar faces returning. Mrs. Sydney Elder has returned from a maternity leave and will be teaching in the Grade 1/2 class. Also returning from a maternity leave is Mrs. Melinda Ireland who will be teaching Grade 2. Mrs. Leanne Middleton is on leave until February and Mrs. Janice Larder will be teaching her Grade 4 class in the interim. Mrs. Victoria Hedge has joined the school’s education staff while Mr. Elderhorst is on leave. The new additions to the school aren’t limited to students and staff however, as a new outdoor classroom and outdoor activitiy area John and Maureen McClinchey and Rodger and Helena Abbott are pleased to announce the marriage of Karrie and Mark. In the exquisite Okanagan region Penticton, British Columbia was the setting for the delightful outdoor wedding of Karrie Kathleen McClinchey, daughter of John and Maureen McClinchey of Blyth, Ontario and Mark Rodger Abbott, son of Rodger Abbott and the late Irene Abbott of Vancouver and Penticton British Columbia, on Saturday, August 29, 2015. The bride and groom’s adorable daughter Hayley Irene was a lovely flower girl at her parents’ marriage ceremony as Karrie and Mark exchanged wedding vows with Terry Chambers, local magistrate from Penticton, (B.C.) officiating. Immediately following the charming marriage ceremony was an awesome wedding reception enjoyed by the families and guests. The very beautiful bride’s grandmother Mrs. Kathleen (Kay) Lockwood from southern Alberta recited the wedding grace prior to a sumptuous full course dinner and dessert. The matron-of- honour was lovely Michelle Beaudry from Vernon, British Columbia, close friend of the bride. The best man was Gianni Tessarolo from North Vancouver, British Columbia, close friend of the groom. The master of ceremonies was Laura Allan from Zurich, Ontario, close friend of the bride and while reminiscing with a walk down memory lane there was plenty of laughter, some well intentioned advice offered to the groom and an abundance of sincere well wishes being extended to the happy couple. Krista Jefferson from Bayfield, Ontario, close friend of the bride spoke fondly of her friend from childhood and of the bride’s many friendships that have been maintained since elementary school and of the pranks, adventures and misadventures enjoyed by the bride and her good friends while growing up in Blyth. Karrie and Mark are a charming couple and we wish them the very best. Family and guests attending the wedding traveled from Ontario, Alberta, California and British Columbia. Mr. and Mrs. Mark and Karrie Abbott and their beautiful daughter Hayley Irene live in Vancouver, British Columbia. Marriage Announcement An inlet to three dreadful things! (Thomas Brooks, “A Heavenly Cordial” 1665) Death is dreadful to the unbelieving sinner, for it puts an everlasting end to all his temporal...mercies, comforts, contentments, and enjoyments. Death will put an everlasting end to all his pleasures of sin. Now the sinner shall never more have one merry day. In Hell there is... no singing--but howling; no music--but madness; no sporting--but sighing; no dancing--but wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth for evermore! In a word, now the sinner shall find by woeful experience, that death will be an inlet to three dreadful things: 1. To judgement, Hebrews 9:27; 2. To an irreversible sentence of condemnation, Matthew 25:41; 3. To endless, ceaseless, and remediless sufferings! A Grace Gem Submitted by: Immanuel United Reformed Church, Listowel, ON 519-291-1956 A treat for the eyes and the ears Glenn Hodgins of Crediton enjoyed the pauses during one of the parades at the annual reunion of the Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby Association over the weekend at the Blyth Campground because it gave him time to pull out his guitar and play a few tunes.
