A great few days The Huron County Ploughing Match took over Ashfield- Colborne-Wawanosh for two days last week, specifically the Hayden family farm, to bring the county a great spectacle of rural living and competition. Clockwise, from top left: While most ploughing is now done with machinery, some at this year’s match opted to try things out the old- fashioned way, with real horsepower, like Scott Thomas of Elmwood; Emily Terpstra, left, was crowned the match’s Princess by outgoing Princess Natalie Fear; Kate Higgins was named Queen of the Furrow at Friday night’s awards banquet; The Queen of the Furrow contestants took their moment in the sun after the competition was over. From left: Eugenia Pentland, Holly Becker, Queen Kate Higgins, Kabrina Bishop, Rachel Nivins, Maisy Jefferson and outgoing Queen Ursina Studhalter; and Warden Paul Gowing tries his hand ploughing as the ceremonial host of the match.
