Brussels group plans Baconfest, main street re-opening After a brief summer hiatus, the Brussels Business Group has resumed meeting and has some interesting ideas for the future. Kathy Nichol, owner of Solace and spokesperson for the group, says that there are a number of irons in the fire for Brussels, including the potential creation of an event called Baconfest within the village next year. It’s a concept that is several months old now, and a committee to discuss the potential future event has already been struck. Its chair is Charlie Hoy of Vital Imagery and on the committee are Kat Dryer, Jeff Miller and Don McNeil. Nichol said that when members of the group were suggesting ideas for a festival, bacon seemed to be something everyone could agree on. Because, as Nichol says, who doesn’t like bacon? The committee has already begun to meet and will report back to the group at an upcoming meeting. In addition to preparations for Baconfest, many Brussels business owners are looking forward to the installation of the new, decorative streetlights throughout the village, which Nichol says should be installed in the next few weeks. Between the installation of the new LED lights and completion of the two-years-long construction project on the village’s main street – making way to a much improved and visually attractive streetscape – there is much to celebrate.
