On Sunday, Aug. 2 the church

Church, Belgrave at 11 a.m. On Aug.
9 at 11 a.m. the church service will
be at the Nature Centre. Everyone is
welcome.
Knox United Church, Belgrave
Vacation Bible School “Son Force
Kids Adventure” is Aug. 17-21, 9
a.m. to noon for ages four to 12. To
volunteer or for more information
call Kim Walker at 519-357-3237.
She is looking for a few items to help
with the craft program and would
appreciate any of the following
donations: new paint, stirring sticks,
empty paper towel tubes, empty
cereal boxes (at least 8 1/2"x11"),
white baby socks, marbles, coloured
aquarium gravel, small plastic jars
(e.g. small peanut butter or fruit jars)
and elastic ponytail holders.
A box will be placed at the back of
the church where any items can be
dropped off. If all donations could be
in by Aug. 2 we could then finalize
the craft projects. If you need further
information call Nancy Folkard at
519-357-2797.
On Tuesday, July 21, the lower
hall of Knox United Church,
Belgrave was filled with music and
happy voices as the ladies of that
church hosted the annual Over 80
birthday party. The day had perfect
summer weather and friends from
far and wide greeted each other and
reminisced. Approximately 60 were
in attendance.
Nancy Jardin acted as the emcee
and welcomed all. The program
began with readings about friendship
and its importance and a memorial
tribute to friends and family who are
no longer with us.
The introduction was made of
special music presented by the The
Mayfair Ukulele Band of Lucknow.
Their leader Marilyn Scott led the 15
members present in a variety of old
favourite songs and the audience was
encouraged to join in. She gave
information about the instrument,
about the formation of the band and
a few folks in the audience gave the
ukuele a try.
Elly Dow, Ruth Gordon and
Nancy Jardin presented a skit
“There’s a hole in my bucket”. A few
jokes ended the program and the
band played Happy Birthday to all.
Eldest person present was Ross
Taylor, 95 years young. Donna Shaw
was the person who most recently
turned 80 and she had the honour of
blowing out the candles on a
decorated cake. Refreshments of
beverages, cake and ice cream were
served by the ladies group.
A special surprise was the arrival
of four young men who joined in all
the fun. One of the young men had a
grandmother playing in the band.
Ruth Gordon gave a thank you to the
ukulele band on behalf of all present.

Getting them air-ready
The Richard W. LeVan Airport in Wingham hosted Canada’s biggest model jet event, the
seventh annual RC Jet Rally, over the weekend. The grounds of the airport were filled with
remote control jet enthusiasts showing off their models and getting them in the air to perform
tricks and stunts. (Denny Scott photo)
