Total receipts for Brussels
Livestock for the week ending July
10 were 1,215 cattle and 939 lambs
and goats. On Tuesday fed steers and
heifers sold on a steady trade.
Choice steers and heifers sold $195
to $200 with sales to $204. Second
cut sold $190 to $195. Cows sold
steady. On Thursday veal sold on a
very strong demand with beef calves
selling steady to last week’s higher
market and holsteins up $5. Heavy
lambs sold lower to the week’s
decline. Sheep sold 20 to 30 cents
higher while goats sold steady.
All classes of cattle sold on a
strong active trade with
yearlings selling $3 to $5 higher.
Joseph Bearinger of Harriston,
consigned two steers that averaged
1,435 lbs. and sold for an average
price of $189.56. One simmental
steer weighed 1,470 lbs. and sold to
St. Helen’s Meat Packers for $192.
Brenda Perrie of Brussels, consigned
five steers that averaged 1,545 lbs.
and sold for an average price of
$186.92. Two black steers averaged
1,483 lbs. and sold to St. Helen’s
Meat Packers for $189.50.
Andy Vander Veen of Blyth,
consigned six heifers that averaged
1,306 lbs. and sold for an average
price of $196.46. One black heifer
weighed 1,270 lbs. and sold to
Norwich Packers for $203.50. Lyle
Kinsman of Kippen, consigned six
heifers that averaged 1,133 lbs. and
sold for an average price of $197.13.
Three black heifers averaged 1,147
lbs. and sold to Norwich Packers for
$197.50.
There were 211 cows on offer.
Export types sold $120 to $125 with
sales to $128; beef, $132 to $136
with sales to $140; D1 and D2, $115
to $123; D3, $105 to $115; D4, $85
to $105. Shaka Larocque of
Haileybury, consigned one rwf cow
that weighed 1,570 lbs. and sold for
$140.
There were six bulls selling $104
to $175. Jamesland Farms of
Durham, consigned one black bull
that weighed 1,765 lbs. and sold for
$175.
There were 162 head of veal on
offer. Beef sold $195 to $217 with
sales to $245; good holsteins, $160
to $172 with sales to $174; medium
holsteins, $145 to $155; heavy
holsteins, $155 to $165. Lamar Frey
of Listowel, consigned nine calves
that averaged 923 lbs. and sold for
an average price of $208.76. One
limousin heifer weighed 865 lbs. and
sold for $245. Glen B. Martin of
Wallenstein, consigned five heifers
that averaged 970 lbs. and sold for
an average price of $216.82. Four
limousin heifers averaged 993 lbs.
and sold for $217. Justin Ulch of
Dublin, consigned one blue steer
that weighed 770 lbs. and sold for
$216. Creekside Acres Ltd. of
Strathroy, consigned one black steer
that weighed 900 lbs. ands old for
$205.
Lambs, 50 - 64 lbs. sold $271 to
$292; 65 - 79 lbs., $236 to $286; 80
- 94 lbs., $197 to $237; 95 - 110 lbs.,
$200 to $218/lb.
Sheep sold $120 to $155.
Goats: kids sold $200 to $275;
nannies, $50 to $130; billies, $150 to
$290/lb.
Top quality stocker steers, 400 -
499 lbs., sold $326 to $435; 500 -
599 lbs., $278 to $370; 600 - 699
lbs., $315 to $370; 700 - 799 lbs.,
$302 to $327; 800 - 899 lbs., $279 to
$285; 900 - 999 lbs., $239 to $257;
1,000 lbs. and over, $223 to $246.
Top quality stocker heifers, 300 -
399 lbs. sold to $370; 400 - 499 lbs.,
$291 to $312; 500 - 599 lbs., $300 to
$340; 600 - 699 lbs., $288 to $308;
700 - 799 lbs., $258 to $272; 800 -
899 lbs., $228 to $251; 900 lbs. and
over, $219 to $239.

Guelph Rail Trail, which has yet to be officially opened to the public. They made the trip last

While controversy continues to
swirl around the G2G Rail Trail,
segments of which should begin to
open later this month, Lynda and
Doug Wilson have nothing but
positive things to say about their
experience with the trail.
The pair walked the trail from end
to end almost exactly one year ago,
making their way to Goderich for
Canada Day celebrations on July 1,
2014.
Doug, who is at the head of the
Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory,
first caught wind of the project as a
member of Regional Tourism
Organization (RTO) 4, where the
trail has been discussed, and
supported, for years.
Coming home to Lynda from an
RTO 4 meeting, Doug suggested
that they hike the trail, despite
neither of them being avid hikers.
In an interview with The Citizen,
Lynda says that she was interested
in taking the trip immediately.
Lynda is an established Ontario
author and quickly decided to turn
