Village busy with Bible school, poker rally visit
This past Saturday, as I was
driving through Auburn, I noticed
that Bud Chamney had his
spectacular collection of classic and
antique cars out on display. Not only
were his cars out in force, but many
motorcycles were parked around his
garage with people milling about
looking at the car collection. I
thought I had better stop and find out
what the occasion was.
It turned out that Bud’s garage was
one of the stops for the Central
Huron Motorcycle Charity Poker
Rally, sponsored by the Clinton
Optimist Club and Legion. About 76
bikers in all made the ride to raise
funds for Childcan, a charity which
helps children and their families
cope with the diagnosis of childhood
cancer. I could tell that these bikers
really enjoyed looking at the cars
and asking Bud questions. One
gentleman I was speaking to was
from Stratford. He told me how he
had driven by Auburn on County
Road 25 many times before but had
never thought that such a wonderful
collection of cars would exist in the
village.
Huron Chapel had a great week of
Vacation Bible School with as many
as 140 kids showing on one given
day. They participated in 20
different crafts over the course of the
week.
They spoke live via video link to
Amanda, a missionary in Thailand.
One day she took her motorcycle
with someone riding on the back
with a video camera to show and tell
the kids about the village she lived
in. Amanda wants to build a
playground for the children in her
village and the children at the
Vacation Bible School were
able to raise $1,331 towards that
project.
On Thursday evening, the children
brought their parents back to the
church for a barbecue where 330
hamburgers came off Brian Garnet’s
grill. After supper the children put
on a talent show for their parents and
family. A highlight of the evening
was an improv skit put on by some
of the volunteers and children from
Vacation Bible School which had
everyone laughing hysterically. On
the last day the children had big
smiles as they went through a
bouncy castle obstacle course. When
it was all over the children were able
to keep their Huron Chapel Thailand
Trek Vacation Bible School
t-shirts.

All smiles
Vacation Bible School at Huron Chapel in Auburn wrapped up on Friday, but before that
happened there was plenty to see and do for participants of all ages. Here, several preschool
children wear their best smiles for the camera as they work with some crafts. (Mark Royall photo)
