Brewers rally to beat Grizzlies
The Walton Brewers rallied from
an early 5-1 deficit to defeat the
Goderich Grizzlies by a score of 16-
5 in a Huron County Fastball League
contest played July 7 at the Walton
Ball Park.
Goderich scored two runs in the
top of the first inning and added
three more in the second inning.
Walton replied with a single run in
the bottom of the second.
The bats came alive in the third
and fourth innings as the Brewers
put seven runners across the plate in
the third inning and scored eight
more runs in the fourth to claim the
victory in five innings.
Barry Young started the onslaught
on the third inning with a two-run
home run. Later in the inning, Scott
McDonald came to the plate with the
bases loaded and promptly belted a
grand slam.
In the fourth inning, after Walton
scored a pair of single runs, the
bases were again loaded and Liam
Melady cranked the ball over the
centrefield fence for a grand slam
home. McDonald added a two-run
home run in the inning.
Melady also rapped out a single
while Young received a pair of walks
and was hit by a pitch. Shawn
Bromley and Scott Cox each had a
pair of singles for the Brewers while
Jeff Robinson, Mark Verkley and
Wade Lammerant rapped out one
single apiece.
Mark Verkley started on the
mound for the Brewers,
with McDonald taking over in
relief.
Paul Dolmage of the Brewers said
the bats came alive in the game for
the Walton squad.
“We had a good rally,” he said.
“We came from behind thanks to
some home runs after getting down
5-1 early.”
The Brewers were in Wroxeter on
Friday and are in Sebringville on
Sunday for a 7 p.m. contest against
the Junior Sting. The next home
game for Walton is Wednesday when
they host the Goderich Grizzlies at 8
p.m. at the Walton Ball Park.

Friday night, the Blyth Bantam team took on a team from
Mildmay in local softball action. Jonathan Snell was on the
mound pitching for the home team, but he couldn’t contain
the offensive onslaught from Mildmay, which took home the
win over Blyth. (Vicky Bremner photo)

Are you having trouble saving? The solution to the problem may be simpler than you think.
It's possible to increase savings and investments just by ensuring you set aside money
before it's used for other purposes. This technique, often called "paying yourself first," is a
simple and painless way to boost savings. Paying yourself first means committing a portion
of your regular pay cheque to savings before you meet other financial obligations.
This strategy works best when you use a preauthorized contribution (PAC) plan that
automatically transfers money from a financial institution account to your savings or
investments. Money is automatically deducted from your banking account and transferred
into investments. Or you can move cash into a holding account and later allocate it to
individual investments.
You'll find that regularly putting money aside throughout the year is easier than finding
large lump sums to invest. And there's a bonus at least part of your money goes to work
sooner, increasing your wealth potential. This is particularly important in an RRSP, where
tax-deferred growth makes it paramount to invest money as soon as you can.
