Edge of Walton sets precedent with outdoor wedding Continued from page 2 intelligently on Knight’s performance, having only dealt with him at meetings. He said that Mayor Bernie MacLellan and Deputy-Mayor Joe Steffler should be carrying out the evaluation process because they both spend the most time working with Knight and have served for a number of terms of council. In his third and final point, Chartrand said that he did support a review of Knight’s performance, however, and was appalled that it hadn’t happened earlier. He said he couldn’t believe that Knight’s work hadn’t been examined further over the course of the last four and a half years. MacLellan said that council has attempted to carry out a job evaluation every two years or so, but admittedly got behind after being bogged down with a number of large issues facing the municipality. Brussels Councillor John Lowe also said he wasn’t going to fill out the form, simply because he didn’t feel comfortable with it – a sentiment that was echoed by several other councillors. No motion came as a result of the resistance to the job evaluation. CAO evaluation declined It was another week of weather that goes from hot to cool, wet and dry, calm and windy. It covers it all in southwestern Ontario. A beautiful weekend for a wedding indeed. Congratulations to Martin Boettcher and his wife Maria who were married on the family farm on Saturday. Martin is the son of Chris and Gabby Boettcher. The newly- weds will reside on Moncrieff Road across from the Boettcher home farm. Maria is from Germany and her family was welcomed to the Boettcher farm on the Thursday before the wedding. Congrats to the young couple. A first for the Edge of Walton was the hosting venue for an outdoor wedding on Saturday. The happy couple of Pat Devereaux and Nicole Lemon were married at the site. It was quite a surprise for the 150 people who attended that evening. The invitations were sent inviting all to an engagement party celebration. When the guests arrived, it was to find it was a wedding instead. Surprise! The outdoor area had a solid dance floor, with corner posts holding strings of bright white lights, beautiful Chinese lanterns, back drops of old windows and doors decorated with pictures and floral arrangements. Following the wedding ceremony, a delicious dinner arrived and music followed. The children even had a bouncy castle to play on for entertainment. Pat is the son of Mike and Faye Devereaux and Nicole, the daughter of Brent and Shirley Lemon. Congrats to the couple! Returning from a month-long vacation driving to western Canada to visit with family are Lorne and Bonnie Glanville. They went to Melford, Saskatchewan to visit with Alec and Gail Glanville and then to Prince Albert to visit with Art Glanville. Then they headed to High Prairie to visit with their son Paul and Teresa and granddaughters Megan and Erica. They spent 10 days with the family, sightseeing around the area, going to Banff and to the ice fields. They spent Canada Day with the RCMP officers of Paul’s detachment. They had a great day and even had fireworks. Bonnie went horseback riding with them. When it was time to head home, they decided to come home through the U.S. They went through Montana and North Dakota and saw Mount Rushmore and went to Deadwood, the authentic wild west town. They saw where they are building a monument to Crazy Horse and other great sites. They made they way back leisurely and stopped, of course, to buy tractor parts. They had some very hot days, up to 39°C some days, but felt no humidity. They managed to see moose, deer and mountain sheep while on their travels. Welcome back Lorne and Bonnie. Another Walton couple has also been away for a vacation to visit with family. Don and Pat Dalton made the trip to visit with son Joel in Fort St. John. They transported some of Joel’s belongings to him. Joel is an industrial firefighter and Don and Pat had a chance to tour the fire station. There has not been much fire work for Joel, as there is a fire ban in his area and his is a speciality fire training. They travelled to the west via Michigan and North Dakota and then went up through Saskatchewan into Alberta, then B.C. They spent five days there touring the Peace River area and it is beautiful with many breathtaking look-out areas. They enjoyed the drive down through the interior of B.C. almost to the bottom and then travelled east through Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Northern Ontario to come home. They travelled 10,000 kilometres and saw a brown bear along the way. The only province they smelled smoke in was Saskatchewan, and it was hot, hot, hot! Welcome back to the Daltons. Congratulations to first-time grandparents Brian and Roslynn Schlosser on the birth of their grandchild. The proud parents are Curtis and Kendall Schlosser and they have welcomed a beautiful baby girl, named Norah to the family. They live in Calgary, Alberta. Kendall’s parents are Gord and Janice (Houston) Carnochan of Seaforth. Both sets of grandparents are planning trips to the west to see the newest addition. The Glanville family reunion was held on Sunday at the Winthrop Ball Park and Pavilion. There were nearly 125 people attending the afternoon of fun and games, and even a bouncy castle before the sumptuous and bounteous potluck meal. Family members from Saskatchewan, Alec, Gail, Melody and Steve attended to enjoy the great day with relatives. Congratulations to Pat and George Langlois on celebrating their 57th wedding anniversary last week. They enjoyed a family dinner at the Docks in Bayfield to celebrate the day. The Pan Am games have begun in Toronto and my children, Lee Ann, Kelly and Scott, went to enjoy two events. They first went to the BMO Field to watch Lee Ann’s favourite game of rugby. The Canadian Ladies Sevens team played against the U.S. and defeated them 55-7, to win the gold medal. They then went to watch the Canadian softball team play in Oshawa against Colombia and they defeated them 10-3. The Canadian team have a 2-0 record. They said it was an amazing experience and they enjoyed both events.
