Brian Hilt - Financial Advisor 19 Main St. N Bayfield, ON N0M 1G0 (519) 565-2700 brian.hilt@edwardjones.com Member - Canadian Investor Protection Fund A successful financial life is like taking a road trip: unless you know where you want to go, you're not going to get there. Just like you would plan a trip, you should map out your finances. Realizing your financial dreams requires goals and a strategy for reaching them. For example, do you want to save and invest for retirement, buy a home, put money aside for your children's education? Your long-term goals should be clearly defined and realistic. Nothing derails a financial plan faster than setting unattainable goals. The best way to clarify goals is by assigning them dollar amounts. When you know how much money it will take to reach your objectives, you can map out an effective savings and investment strategy. One good way to get where you want to go is by setting up a preauthorized contribution plan to funnel cash into investments. Money will be transferred from a financial institution account to investments at regular intervals. It's also a good idea to work with a professional. A financial advisor can help define your goals and strategy, as well as choose appropriate investments. Have a question you want answered here? Ask Brian by phone or email. (Jim Brown photo) Care Partners building debated The future of the former Care Partner building in Belgrave, which belongs to North Huron Township, will be the focus of consultation with neighbours of the site. Care Partners moved out of the site after council released them from their contract early at its June 20 meeting, and, during its July 6 meeting, council heard that the building might be in rough shape. The first concern, according to Director of Recreation and Facilities Pat Newson, is that the water and septic system the building uses are shared between its neighbours. To the south, a private lot provides water access due to a historical hookup and the lot shares the sewage system of the Belgrave Community Centre to the north. Newson stated if the building or lot were to be sold, those issues would need to be dealt with first and a septic system could be out of the question as the property sits. She also reported that the roof and windows on the building need to be replaced but also said that, if the township found another tenant to rent it, which might not happen, the tenant may have requests. “The carpets are very rough,” she said. “Just washing them might not do it.” Newson did state that $26,500 had been budgeted to cover the roof and window repairs, however. Councillor Brock Vodden said he was familiar with the building and agreed it was in rough shape. “I have paid a number of visits to that property over the past year and it’s not in very good condition,” he said. Newson agreed, saying that, along with the exterior issues she had discussed, the interior would likely need painting and work on the floor. “There is a lot to do, there is no getting around that,” she said. “Demolishing the building is a potential outcome in this discussion. We would never make that decision without consulting with council, but, if all arrows point to that, then that is what we’ll report to council.” Council directed Newson to discuss the property with owners of the private property to the south and the Belgrave and District Community Centre Board, as the centre borders the property to the north and is also township property.
