Folks around the area held their
breath on the evening of June 22
with the threat of severe weather
warnings. The new emergency
weather alert came across radio and
television to inform folks of the
danger. Morning arrived and to
everyone’s relief the destructive
weather had not materialized.
Welcome to summer.
Changes around the countryside
continue. Walton Road has not only
a new house going up, but a new
dryer system is being constructed
close to Blyth. An addition to a
Walton Road chicken barn has
begun. A dryer system and grain bins
are also in the process of being built
in Walton. A new storage shed has
been built on Moncrieff Road and a
farm on Blyth Road has torn down a
part of their shed and a new part will
go up. Hullett McKillop Road has an
old piece of property cleaned up and
a new parking yard made and
another property has had all the
buildings torn down and a new house
is going up. The new Royal Home
on Graham Road has arrived. There
is lots of building happening.
The school year is over, but many
special events happened last week
during those final days. F. E. Madill
Secondary School hosted the Perth
Academy Senior boys rugby team
from Scotland on Tuesday evening.
Approximately 25 team members,
plus chaperones, toured Ontario for
12 days.
They played rugby teams in
Oshawa, Peterborough, Niagara
Falls and Paris – where they spent
two nights camping in a provincial
park. The boys were thrilled to see
some of Ontario’s wildlife, including
raccoons and skunks, while there!
They played at Madill on Tuesday
afternoon against a combined senior
and junior team. All 41 Madill
players had a chance to play in the
game.
It was an excellent match with
Madill losing 17-12, but an awesome
game and opportunity for the boys.
The Madill Rugby team travelled to
Scotland about five years ago and
the Madill coaching staff was
pleased to welcome many of the
same Scotland staff.
Following the game, a social time
with food and presentations was
held. The teams exchanged gifts and
the Man of the Match award was
given to Arden Coultes of the Madill
team. The Scotland team was
heading for Toronto for the duration
of their trip. Canada’s Wonderland,
the CN Tower and going to see the
Toronto FC soccer team play were
on the agenda before their trip home.
A great way for the rugby teams to
finish the year!
Chris and Judy Lee were the proud
grandparents of the Co-
Valedictorian of St. James School in
Seaforth. Caden Lee, the son of
Tracey Lee and Brett Lee and Mel
was chosen by his fellow students
along side Griffin St. Onge. The two
boys did an excellent job of their co-
written speech. Their speech
portrayed themselves as Don Cherry
and Ron MacLean and described
their classmates as teammates and
their qualities as team players. They
included their teachers as the
managers, trainers and staff that
created, coached and molded the
class into a “team”.
What a great parallel the boys
described and a good job by both, I
am told. The boys look forward to
heading to Grade 9. Congrats
Caden!
Congratulations to Kevin Wilbee
on his receiving his “Call to the Bar”
last weekend. Kevin spent the
weekend in Ottawa visiting with
friends before the actual convocation
held Monday. Proud parents Keith
and Gloria attended the very special
occasion. Kevin, along with several
hundred others, received his
Barrister at Law Degree and
officially joined the Law Society of
Canada.
Kevin is employed at the law firm
of Monteith Ritsma Phillips in
Stratford. He currently handles
family law, civil litigation, wills, real
estate, landlord and tenant and
business contracts. Well done Kevin
and congratulations!
