Bible school, soccer
camp coming up
Making it safer
The Dave Mounsey Memorial Fund made its 42nd donation late last month in Auburn, placing
a defibrillator in the Auburn Community Hall. Thanks to a donation from the late John MacKay,
an Auburn native, and the Auburn Lions Club, the donation was installed by Fund founder
Patrick Armstrong, right, and Travis Teed of the Lions, left. The life-saving machine was placed
in the name of Doug Cantelon; the second placed in Cantelon’s name, the first was at the
Central Huron Fire Department station in Clinton. Joining Armstrong and Teed for the donation
was Irene Cantelon, Doug’s widow. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
The wind was picking up and you
could hear thunder off in the
distance. Rain would soon be here.
Out in the field at Huron Chapel
youth leader Rob Campbell was
frantically at work trying to attach
and set up the new soccer nets to the
goal posts. He managed to do it just
in time before the threatening storm
hit the field.
The reason behind Campbell’s
hurried efforts is due to the
upcoming Soccer Camp coming to
Auburn July 27-30. After taking a
year off last summer, demand has
prompted the return of the camp
which is put on by Athletes In
Action and Huron Chapel.
The goal of the camp is that a
child can pursue their passion for
soccer while being developed as a
total athlete.
Athletes In Action, which has
been running these camps since
1993, says the company is wanting
to help athletes develop physically,
spiritually and mentally based on
Christian principles in an
environment that is fun and
engaging.
The coaches for these camps bring
years of coaching and performance
experience with backgrounds
ranging from university athletes to
club and youth coaches. They serve
as great role models for campers
both on and off the field. This year
there will be four coaches coming to
work along side with Huron Chapel
volunteers at the July camp. These
coaches include Jonathan Theissen,
21, a history major studying at
Redeemer University in Ancaster,
Greg Voskcamp, 22, who recently
graduated from Redeemer, Tanya
Couperous, 19, a psychology major
who is hoping one day to work with
troubled teens, and Meaghan Rudd,
21, who is studying Kinesiology at
Redeemer as well.
Also this week, beginning on July
5, Vacation Bible School will be
returning to Auburn. Last year the
Huron Chapel also took a hiatus
from their traditional Vacation Bible
School but are back in force this
year hoping for the 200 plus kids
who have been part of the program
in recent years. Once again there
will be a live band, a huge market
place in the gymnasium, the best
crafts, treats to eat and powerful
lessons.

School or the Soccer Camp you can
