Thinking about death or disability may not be pleasant, but it’s important to have an
effective strategy to help avoid financial hardship if unforeseen circumstances arise.
Your financial safety net could consist of different types of insurance – including life,
disability, long-term care and critical illness.
Life insurance protection can provide funds to offset the financial loss created by the
death of a breadwinner.
Disability insurance replaces a portion of your income if a serious illness or injury
prevents you from working.
Critical illness insurance provides a tax-free lump sum, usually 30 days after you are
diagnosed with a covered condition such as a heart attack, stroke or cancer.
And long-term care insurance provides tax-free income to help offset the costs of
long-term care services, whether they’re provided by a facility or in your own home.
Speak to your financial advisor to help you determine the specifics of insurance
coverage that makes sense for you, taking into account your own unique needs and
circumstances.
Insurance is offered by Edward Jones Insurance Agency (except in Quebec).
In Quebec, insurance is offered by Edward Jones Insurance Agency (Quebec) Inc.

Walton-area families
celebrate reunions
We have had enough rain for
awhile and some hot weather, so the
bonus is the corn should be knee
high by July. Unfortunately, the
abundance of rain is causing more
problems for the bean crop. There
are fields out there with very sparse
beans in them. Time is soon running
out for replanting according to
experts, but welcome to summer!
Another new baby for Walton
grandparents. Patty Banks is happy
to report a grandson born to
daughter Cassandra and partner
Sheldon. They have welcomed baby
boy Nash Geoffrey to their lives.
Nash will be welcomed home by big
sister Regan. Congratulations to all!
It is reunion time when it is
summer. The Walton Hall was the
venue for the hosting of the McNabb
family gathering. Rick and Margaret
McInroy were the hosts for the
event. About 30 people enjoyed
lunch, an afternoon of visiting, and
then clean-up, with leftovers plus
some pork chops for supper. They
spent most of the day with folks
coming and going. The McNabb
connection comes from Margaret’s
grandmother’s side of the family.
The Craig reunion was held at the
home of Graeme and Helen Craig on
Saturday. They had a good turnout of
family to enjoy fun, swimming, food
and visiting for the day.
Returning from a trip to the east
coast are many members of the
Knight family. The first to head east
was Marni Knight. She had to go to
St. John’s, Newfoundland for her
work. She spent time in St. John’s,
Clarenville, Eastport and Gander.
She reports seeing many majestic
icebergs when heading to Gander
and they were awesome!
A few days later, more Knights
headed east, including Jack, Brad
and Christine Knight, to visit with
Dr. Janine Knight in St. John’s.
They enjoyed time touring Signal
Hill, Cape Spear, Petty Harbour and
Belle Island. Evenings were spent
with Janine enjoying family time
and visiting. Janine is soon leaving
St. John’s and heading for Goose
Bay, Labrador to continue her last
year of residency. Marni met up with
the rest of the family to enjoy time
with Janine also. The Knights were
away for a week to 10 days for some,
and report a great time. A beautiful
part of the country they recommend
everyone should see.
Members of the Walton Women’s
Institute met at the home of
Margaret McInroy last week. The
group of six women enjoyed their
day and the topic was water.
Congratulations to Mike and Tess
Lefor on their wedding celebration
last weekend. The couple were wed a
few months ago and held a
celebration party for family and
friends on the Lefor family farm last
weekend. Congrats to Mike and Tess!
A perfect weekend for racing at
the Walton Raceway. They had two
days of racing with Sunday being a
qualifier race for the big Transcan
race held in August. There was a
great turnout for both days.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week include Dawson Dunbar, Kiara
Driscoll, Margaret McInroy, Sue
Hannon, Adam McClure, Tyson
McGavin, Dianne Godkin, Wenda
Humphries, Carolyn Sullivan, Kevin
Flaxbard, Kelly Godkin, Chase
Hackwell, Ruth Sauve Schade, Jill
Fritz, Mary Humphries, Maya
Armstrong, Quinn Driscoll and
Kendra Wilts.
Happy birthday to all.

NWES Bus driver recognized
Murray Hoover celebrated 50
years of driving a school bus for
North Woods Elementary School
and its predecessor Grey Central
Public School earlier this week.
As part of a special assembly
which saw the school bidding
farewell to its senior-most class, the
Grade 6 students, Hoover was also
recognized for the time he spent
behind the wheel.
It was mentioned by school staff
that Hoover has been driving for the
school since the day the building
opened (as Grey Central) in 1965.
Hoover received some gifts from
the students and parents on his bus
route as well as from the school’s
students and staff. He was
personally thanked by Principal
Wendy Armstrong-Gibson, School
Board Superintendent of Business
and Treasurer Janet Baird-Jackson
and John Chapman, who bought the
school board’s buses earlier this
century and formed Newry Coach
Lines for whom Hoover has been
working all those years.
After taking part in a dramatized
version of “The Wheels on the Bus,”
Hoover spoke to the audience and
said that he was pleasantly surprised
by the recognition.
“This is a wonderful day I’ll never
forget,” he said. “This school have
been kind of a second home to me.”
Hoover said that the last 50 years
have been filled with great
memories with the kids, the school’s
staff and his colleagues.
“I wish I took notes,” he said. “I
could have written a book about all
the great times,” he said. “This is a
great moment for me. Thank you
very much.”
Hoover, according to Chapman,
just renewed his licence for ‘the last
time’, so Chapman hopes to see
Hoover continue driving for another
four or five years.
‘The Wheels on the Bus’
As part of a celebration of his 50 years on the job, North
Woods Elementary School bus driver Murray Hoover,
shown sitting, took part in a special dramatization of the
song ‘The Wheels on the Bus’. Hoover has been on the job
driving children to and from the school since its doors
opened 50 years ago and he was honoured by the school,
school board and his employers during a special assembly
at the school on Monday. Shown celebrating with Hoover
are, from left, Agatha Wall, Ayden Marsh and Ennalise
Sharp. (Denny Scott photo)
