Tigers shut out, then mercied by Hitmen
After scoring a 4-0 decision over
the Wingham Hitmen in Wingham
on June 12, the Brussels Tigers were
mercied 8-1 in five innings last
Friday evening by the Hitmen in
Huron County Fastball League
play at the Optimist Ball Park in
Brussels.
In the game played June 12 in
Wingham, Ty Sebastian threw a no-
hitter, striking out 18 and giving up
four walks.
In the contest played this past
Friday in Brussels, the Hitmen broke
open a close 2-1 contest by scoring
five runs in the top of the third
inning and then added a single run in
the fifth to claim the victory. The
Tigers scored their only run in the
bottom of the first inning.
Ken Hogg connected for a two-run
home run in the top of the first
inning for the Hitmen and Jeremy
Creeden hit a solo blast in the top of
the fifth.
Dennis Dewer went the distance
on the mound for the Tigers and
recorded nine strike outs. Trevor
Seip pitched all five innings for
Wingham and had nine strike outs.
Getting hits for the Tigers were
Steve Scholl, Adam Corbett and Ben
Newell, all with singles.
Jamie Hickling of the Tigers said
they came out a bit flat in the game.
“Dennis Dewer pitched well,” he
said. “We had runners in
scoring position, but we
just couldn’t get the timely hit.”
He added they made a couple of
errors which helped produce runs for
Wingham.
The Tigers played host to the
Belmore Stingers last night
(Wednesday) and then travel to
Sebringville tonight (Thursday) for
an 8:30 p.m. contest against the
Junior Sting.
Ups and downs
The Brussels Tigers put notches in both the win and loss
columns over the past few weeks after shutting out the
Wingham Hitmen 4-0 then in turn being mercied by the
Hitmen 12-1. (Photo submitted)

El Camino hike set Sept. 26-27
The El Camino Maitland 2015
will take place on Sept. 26-27 on the
Maitland Trail. Generously
sponsored by Libro Credit Union,
this two-day 49-kilometre hike
covers the entire Maitland Trail from
Auburn to the Goderich beach
pavilion. Day one is a 29-kilometre
hike and day two is 20 kilometres.
For individuals unsure if they want
to do the full 49 kilometres, there are
shorter routes available on Saturday
and Sunday.
The Maitland Trail Association is
providing rest stops with water and
snacks along the route and a shuttle
service to the starting locations.
Saturday evening features a local
harvest feast catered by Devin
Tabor.
Last year, registration filled up
quickly. The size of the event has
increased this year, but it is still
important to register early to avoid
disappointment.
Cost per person for El Camino
Maitland is $25 for adults and $10
for children for the hike and $30 for
the dinner Saturday night. See the
Maitland Trail Association website
at www.maitlandtrail.ca/el-camino-
maitland-2015/ for more details or
to register.
