At the Branch
Fry crew kept busy
By Jo-Ann McDonald
What a week it has been for the
many members of the Brussels
Legion Branch and especially the
fish fry crew. The Branch catered to
three meals last week and have two
more to go later this week. June is a
popular month for fish! We will look
forward to a break in July!
The first fry was at the Presbyterian
Church in Atwood last Tuesday. They
had a turnout of over 280 people.
There were nine members of the
Branch on duty that day including
Bob and Monica Richardson, Rick
and Jo-Ann McDonald, Judy Lee,
Daisy Wong Schmidt, Mabel and
Sharon Glanville and Linda Bird. It
was a good day with no rain and a
good job by all.
Next the crew went to Wroxeter
for the Community Hall Board
fundraiser last Thursday evening. A
smaller crowd of 165 were fed. The
crew again was lucky and were all
cleaned up and loaded before the
rain hit. The lucky crew included
Rick and Jo-Ann McDonald, Glenn
Bridge, George Adams, Judy Lee
and Daisy Wong Schmidt.
The week ended with just a small
crew for a small fry heading to
Mitchell on Saturday evening. They
had 125 for their dinner, prepared by
Rick and Jo-Ann McDonald and
Judy Lee.
Of course, there is always prep
work involved and the Branch has
the dedicated Deb Cann who helps
prepare the fish for most every fry.
There is also Rick McDonald who
loads the trailer before we go to an
event and after the event he does
clean-up of the fryers and oil.
The Brussels Cemetery
Decoration is Sunday and we hope
there is a good crowd in attendance.
The service remembers those who
have passed away this past year and
rest at Brussels Cemetery.
Remember your lawn chairs and if
the weather is inclement, please
listen to CKNX for information.
NEWS
FROM BRUSSELS
Cruising around Brussels
Jeff Miller, owner of the Jam Jar Pub and Eatery, was behind a cruise night that brought well
over 50 cars to the village on Friday night, just as the Farmers’ Market was winding down for
the day. Here, Ken Glanville, right, shows off his truck for a number of curious spectators.

Postcards featured at market
The Farmers’ Market on Friday
was in full stride with a good
selection of vendors, a sunny day,
Anglican bacon on a bun to eat and
lots of people. New this year are
Brussels postcards, each one a nice
portrait of our community. These
came to our municipality through
Economic Development Officer Jan
Hawley and the proceeds from the
card sales assist the music budget for
the market. So send some out and
bring the music in. Meghan Sholdice
would love to see you at the market
and sell you several.
Car enthusiasts were having a
great time on Friday evening as they
hung around the Jam Jar admiring
the many classic autos all ready for a
cruise. Pick a favourite year and it
was there, shone up and polished.
The cruise did Bluevale, Wingham,
Blyth and into Huronlea where
smiles were the thanks as the cars
did the circle to great applause.
Thanks to Charles, Tom and Jeff for
organizing the evening.
Sunday morning had the McCall,
Brown and Blake families all up and
ready for worship at the United
Church. It was a very special day as
Sawyer Bruce was introduced to us,
all ready to be baptized. His good
genes were showing as he let Rev.
Gary pat lots of water on his head
which then dripped down his cute
wee nose. He was patient, with never
a frown, much to the relief of parents
Julie and Matt. The grandparents
and family looked pretty pleased
with life all around.
Bob Kellington did his bit for the
Food Grains Bank on Sunday, his
beard came off, thanks to efficient
Janice Machan and the money was
