Duff’s United Church celebrated
its 150th Anniversary on Sunday
with a wonderful congregation of
nearly 150 folks. Many former
members and current members
attended and were welcomed by the
musical talents of the Walton Band.
The band includes Gloria and Keith
Wilbee, Graeme Craig, Marion and
Dianne Godkin, Marie McGavin,
Glenda Morrison, Pearl McCallum
and Sean Mitchell. The guest
speaker was Pastor Steve Hildebrand
of Egmondville United Church.
Gloria Wilbee welcomed everyone
and made the announcements for the
day. She introduced Pastor Steve.
Special music was provided by
Keith and Gloria singing “He
Watches Me” and Gloria sang, “We
Rise Again”. The choir also sang to
the enjoyment of all “Special
Moments”. It was a very interactive
service with the congregation called
upon to respond during the
segments.
It was a wonderful service. The
service was made special by the
opening of the time capsule that had
been buried behind the corner stone
marking Duff’s church in 1912.
Members Jim McDonald, Teresa
Baan and Glenda Morrison opened
up the stone on Thursday evening to
retrieve the tin box “time capsule”
for the service. They found within a
poster announcing the burying of the
time capsule at a special service at
Duff’s in May 1912, newspaper
clippings of the event, some money,
a communion card and other
clippings. Some had become damp
in the box, but some were in decent
shape. It was very interesting to see
the display.
Following the service, the
congregation was treated to a
delicious cold plate meal provided
by the congregation of Egmondville
United Church to help celebrate the
anniversary. Anniversary cake was
enjoyed by all. Graeme Craig
thanked the members of
Egmondville and led a round of
applause for all.
