In a submission to The Citizen’s
Lives Remembered, Marcy C.
McCall MacBain remembers her
grandmother Mary L. McCall.
Following the funeral and
memorial services held in Seaforth
and Brussels this weekend, I
immediately felt I wanted to write to
the members of our community in
Huron East. It was upon the sad
occasion of losing my grandmother,
Mary L. McCall, that I have been
reminded once again of the kindred
and thoughtful group of people who
come from what is formerly known
as Huron County! It has been 13
years since I left Canada, and more
than 15 since I left the county. And
still I found myself incredibly
grateful for the group of friends and
family who assembled to celebrate
the life of Grandma McCall. On
behalf of the McCall family, thank
you for your kind words and support
over the years, and in particular this
past week. For those of you who
were unable to attend the ceremony,
I wish to share an excerpt from the
eulogy that was shared on May 9,
2015 at Northside United Church.
Mary Louise Ireland was born on
April 2, 1921. She was a lively
youngster and had she not chosen to
marry one of the finest men from
Morris Township, she might have
gone on to practise nursing, or could
well have been the founder of a
worldwide food and fashion empire.
Our Grandpa Stewart McCall loved
Mary for her patience, her wit and
commitment to the finer things in
life. Her sons, my dad Murray and
our Uncle Jack, were born nearly
seven years apart, I think just the
right amount of time so she could
spoil each of them to equal measure.
Grandma was a woman who
McCall is remembered by granddaughter
