inform the Health Unit of any

viders do not automatically share
that information with the Health
Unit.
“Immunizations are a key part of
public health,” says Taylor.
“Ensuring students are immunized
keeps our schools and communities
safe and healthy.”
The Health Unit annually reviews
immunization records for students
attending school. Under the
Immunization of School Pupils Act
(ISPA) Ontario students are
required to be vaccinated against
several infectious diseases in order
to attend school.
Ontario students must be
vaccinated against diphtheria,
tetanus, polio, measles, mumps and
rubella. Last year vaccines for
meningitis and pertussis (whooping
cough) were added to the list, as
well as varicella (chickenpox)
vaccine for students born in 2010 or
later.

supporting the continuance of the
business.
Mayor Jim Ginn, however,
attempted to keep councillors on
topic, saying that while it is tempting
to discuss the future of the business
existing in the municipality forever,
a one-year temporary bylaw is what
was before council that night, and a
decision on that allowance is what
needed to be made – not a debate on
the future of the business.
Ginn said he felt that the extension
should be granted. To close the
business without giving Pate and
Oke the opportunity to further
explore a potential agreement with
the Planning Department or their
neighbours would be a rash move,
he said.
“We always talk about economic
development – at some point you
have to put your money where your
mouth is,” Ginn said.
Pate, Oke and Pate’s parents (the
owners of the property) will now
have one year to craft an agreement
with the Huron County Planning
Department and various
neighbouring farms that all parties
hope will leave everyone happy, able
to co-exist and expand.

What a gorgeous day for all who
ventured out onto the streets of
Auburn this past Saturday morning
for the annual village-wide yard
sale. I began the morning with a
great Lions Club breakfast at the
community hall. Pancakes piled
high with real maple syrup, eggs,
sausage and toast, all for $7. You
can’t beat that. The only thing better
was being able to visit with the
people who filled the hall to eat
breakfast with me.
When I finished there I hit the
streets going from yard to yard
looking for deals. I wasn’t alone.
There were many people out deal
hunting with me, some were
walking and others were driving.
Once I think I even saw what looked
like traffic congestion right here in
Auburn. Who would have thought?
With the yard sale behind us, we
are looking forward to another rite
of passage for springtime, the
Auburn Horticultural Society’s
annual plant auction sale. This year
it is being held at 7 p.m. on Monday,
May 11 at the Auburn Community
Hall. Horticultural Society president
Karen Redmond says they are now
accepting donations of garden
accessories such as, garden hooks,
decorative stones, birdhouses, etc.
Donations may be dropped off any
time after 12 p.m. on the day of the
sale at the Auburn Hall. Cash only
will be accepted and there will be
door prizes and a light snack. If you
have any questions you may contact
Karen at 519-526-7633.
