challenge, Chambers said, as it has
many services and facilities she had
never worked with before, pointing
to the airport and the Wingham
Police Department as examples.
One thing that hasn’t been a
challenge, however, is getting
integrated in North Huron.
“It has been a really great
transition,” she said. “Leaving
anywhere you have been at that long
is an emotional decision, especially
since I was born and raised there, but
the staff and council in North Huron
have made it really easy and have
been very welcoming, helpful and
willing to work and develop ideas.”
Chambers said she is very pleased
with her first several weeks and is
looking forward to continuing and
allowing her to do a job she really
does enjoy.
“I love being involved and doing
my job,” she said. “I love working
for the community because it’s what
I’m passionate about.”
That said, she is aware there are
going to be challenges with her new
position.
“In the short term, I want to focus
on getting processes in place to
assist the senior management team
to make decisions,” she said.
“Getting reports to council and
having time for meeting preparation
is important.”
Chambers said she had made
advancements in South Bruce in that
field and hopes to see similar
developments in North Huron as
well.
Another issue Chambers knows
she will be facing is the cross-border
servicing agreement.
Currently the agreement, which
will dictate how users of North
Huron’s services and infrastructure
who live outside the township will
be charged, is being debated with
Morris-Turnberry. Chambers,
however, was quick to point out the
agreement isn’t just for Morris-
Turnberry and will have to be
considered for any development
along the township borders.
“We had a brainstorming session
on Wednesday [April 22] and it was
extremely beneficial,” she said. “We
identified challenges and priorities
and what is next for the budget year.
I was really encouraged to hear that
council wants to start bridging those
gaps with our neighbours.
“When we started looking at
priorities in 2015 for the 2016 budget
year, we recognized that there is a
need to work together,” she said.
Chambers lives in Teeswater and
has been married to her husband Pat
for just over 25 years and has two
sons, Ryan, who is 22 years old and
studying at Fanshawe College and
Justin who is 20 and is a carpentry
apprentice.
A new face
North Huron Township’s New Chief Administrative Officer
Sharon Chambers has a lot of municipal experience, having
been part of South Bruce’s (and before amalgamation,
Teeswater’s) municipal staff for 22 years. Chambers started
with the municipality earlier this month. (Denny Scott photo)
