President Nancy Jardin welcomed the 12 members present and opened the regular meeting in the usual manner. She also reviewed the mission statement, vision statement and values as printed in the WI handbook. Dianna Robinson’s secretarial and financial reports were presented and approved. An invitation was read. This event is an Edwardian Tea at the North Huron Museum on Friday, May 15. Roll call was answered with reporting of volunteer hours. Generous donations were displayed which included knitted items, baby quilts, toiletry items, books and puzzles and more. These will bring much happiness at the London Children’s Hospital. Winners of a lucky draw were members Joanne Cook and Audrey Fenton. Membership fees for 2015 - 2016 were paid. Member Sharon Bondi was presented with a name badge from the branch. Doreen Marks reported favourably on two recent events that she attended. One was the Agriculture and Water Festival at Seaforth, the other was a membership workshop at Gowanstown. Announcement were made concerning the Huron West District annual meeting which is slated for May 25 at the Auburn Hall. Registration is at 10:15 a.m. Ruth Olson encouraged members to notify her by June of planned programs and time was spent reviewing some ideas. The remainder of the evening was devoted to reviewing the past year and the installation of officers for 2015-2016. Reports from the various positions were presented and approved. For the service of In Memoriam Verna Norgate lit a candle and read several items about remembrance. A minute’s silence was observed. After the nominating committee’s report Verna installed the officers for the coming year: Past President, Nancy Jardin; President, Verna Norgate; Vice-President, Doreen Marks; Secretary-Treasurer, Dianna Robinson; ROSE, Ruth Olson; Curator, Wilma Higgins; Advocacy, Dianna Robinson as well as others. Gifts of thanks were given to Verna Norgate, Dianna Robinson and Nancy Jardin. The meeting was adjourned, grace was sung and lunch served by Ruth Olson and Wilma Higgins. In May, the annual ladies outing will be to the Drayton Theatre, May 19 followed by a meal in a nearby church. Dorothy Coultes was in charge of this event. Regrets had been received from Huron West District President Debbie Bauer, that she was unable to attend this event to install the new officers. By Linda Campbell Call 357-2188 PEOPLE AROUND BELGRAVE NEWS FROM BELGRAVE North Huron’s new CAO brings experience North Huron Township Council welcomed its new Chief Administrative Officer Sharon Chambers just over a week ago. Chambers fills a position that had been technically vacant since last September when Chief Administrative Officer (CAO)/Clerk Gary Long resigned. In the interim, Deputy-Clerk Kathy Adams had been promoted to Clerk and North Huron had employed a temporary CAO. Chambers brings 22 years experience working in South Bruce (and Teeswater before amalgamation) to North Huron and explained how she worked her way up in both municipal organizations. “I really did come in at the bottom,” she explained. “I was making out hydro bills by hand in Teeswater. From there I worked my way through every department filling every role that was there.” She said working with the various departments was a great opportunity to learn and, prior to being named the Chief Administrative Officer in South Bruce, she was the Director of Public Works which was a position from which she learned a lot. “I learned a great deal about management and the environment,” she said. As for the move, Chambers said she was looking for a new challenge. “I really had done everything I could in South Bruce,” she said. “We had the management team working well so I felt it was time to look at a new challenge.” North Huron will provide that Knox service cancelled for Dungannon anniversary There were six tables of shoot in play on Friday, April 24 at the Community Centre.
