The CitizenClassifieds Blyth • Brussels 519-523-4792 519-887-9114 Continued from page 20 of God. As fathers we shared our bewilderment at what the young adults who have left Canada to join ISIS could be thinking and what were they seeking? So our stomachs and hearts we fed at table and in conversations. What an amazing wonder, that in the simple acts of inviting, speaking and sharing food, peace and understanding among people are increased. I thought if we who seem so different could be brought closer together then imagine what power of harmony and peace we might discover if we reached out to people in our own community or even in our families where walls and suspicions have been built up? Peace is more likely to happen when the intention of the gathering isn’t to convince, convert or coerce. The intention of the gathering must be to increase understanding, share our truth about life and to break bread. In those things God is present. I know because I felt in me God’s pleasure at seeing his children together. I learned much about Islam last Friday but more than that I experienced the presence of God and saw a hope for peace in our world, communities and families re-planted in me. I know I wasn’t alone in receiving that gift and now I want to share it with you. I also see the hand of God in this because for the last couple of weeks, on behalf of our local ministerial, I have been planning with the Lucknow and Area Quaker Worship Group, an event on Conflict Resolution. We have invited Dr. Reina Neufeldt from Conrad Grabel University College to come and help us explore Community Conflict Resolution. We are meeting at Blyth United Church on May 4 at 7 p.m. and all are invited to learn from each other as we move from division to collaboration and friendship. The hope is there and the possibilities very real for those who want to bring peace back into our families and communities. I hope to see you there and God Bless!
