Sunday, the Londesborough Lions
Club served up breakfast to a goodly
number of people. Now they invite
you to get your tickets for their sixth
Annual Fish Fry to be held on
Saturday, May 2 at the
Londesborough Community Hall.
Advance tickets for this meal can be
purchased from any Lion member.
At the same time you can get your
ticket for their ninth Annual Rubber
Duck Race. This is a popular event
and tickets go fast.
Well, the snow has gone, the grass
is greening up nicely and even some
hardy snowdrops, crocus and
daffodils are making their
appearance. The maple syrup season
was a good one, I understand,
making it a tasty year for our
waffles, etc. And even with my
limited time out of doors right now,
I spotted a red winged blackbird the
other day, so the warm weather
should arrive soon.
A spring clean-up will take place
at Ball’s Cemetery on Saturday,
April 25 beginning at 9 a.m. Lunch
will be provided by the cemetery
board. Please bring a rake and work
gloves and remember, many hands
make light work.
Speaking of spring and the desire
to get out working those gardens,
Greyhaven Gardens is holding an
open house on May 2. It was such a
cute notice in last week’s paper that
one might want to attend just to
catch a glimpse of those twins.
Another harbinger of spring at our
house is racing. Race car driver Sam
Schmidt always dreamed of driving
the track at Long Beach, California.
Sunday that dream came true but not
the way he expected. Several years
ago Sam was in a race accident and
has been a quadriplegic since. But
Sunday he drove the track prior to
the Toyota Grand Prix of California
IRL race. Technicians have built the
car he drove using his head and his
voice. It looked like sensors were
attached to his headgear over which
he had control for a successful lap
around the road course.
As I’ve remarked before, the
advances in equipment and
manufacture that go into the
building and driving of these race
cars eventually find their way to our
highway cars. It will be interesting
to see how Sam’s experience helps
other drivers regain a measure of
independence. Incidentally Scott
Dixon won that race for the first
time.
Lena Nesbitt is home following
surgery and could surely use your
prayers and concern. While she
recuperates, son Ron is having a
vacation at Braemar in Wingham. If
you are up that way you might drop
in and say ‘Hello’.
Ann Potter could also use your
support as she cares for her son,
Gordon, at home. Gordon is dealing
with cancer. The situation would
benefit from your prayers.
Seems many folk took advantage
of the e-waste depot last Saturday. It
was a good time/way to begin spring
housecleaning.
Bob Trick’s mystery item from
last week is a clay pigeon thrower. It
seems if one wanted to practise their
marksmanship and had no one
around to assist, one could use this
device. I think one would need to be
an expert shot to have time for both
throwing and shooting.

Huron County 4-H clubs were well represented on
Saturday in Londesborough as Mary Ellen Foran and Reg
Vinnicombe collected clothing and electronics to raise
money for 4-H clubs throughout Huron County. The day-
long event, by all accounts, was a success. (Jasmine deBoer
