A fundraiser for the Brussels
Youth Centre raised over $7,000 on
the weekend.
The youth centre, which is a non-
denominational organization that is
in the basement of the Brussels
Mennonite Fellowship Church, is
part of the North Huron Branch of
Youth Unlimited and, through a pie
and silent auction and raffle tickets,
as well as dinner and a dance, will
receive what is left from the $7,200
total after all bills have been
accounted for.
Kathy Procter, who is part of the
special committee that ran the event,
said she was surprised at how much
they raised and happy they were able
to donate to the organization.
“It was great to see what we
raised,” she said. “The evening went
very, very well.”
Procter went on to say the event
went very smoothly and all the
events went over well and were
enjoyed by many.
“Everyone seemed to be enjoying
themselves and they all seemed to be
interacting with each other,” she
said. “It was a very good
experience.”
The money from the event will go
towards paying for programs and
expenses at the youth centre which
has been in operation since 2010.
Through volunteers like Sue
Haskins, who operates the site, the
youth centre offers programming for
children Grades 9 to 12 on
Wednesday nights, Grades 6 to 8 on
Thursday nights and a young
mothers group Thursday during the
day.
The next event for the
organization is the annual bike-a-
thon for Youth Unlimited. This year
the event will be held on June 13 and
hosted in Brussels.

The Brussels Mennonite
Fellowship is celebrating its 35th
anniversary this year, focusing on
the themes of honouring its past
while at the same time looking
ahead to its future.
The church will mark the occasion
with a concert on Saturday, May 2
and a special worship service on
Sunday, May 3.
Pastor Ken Gazley, who is still
relatively new to the Brussels
position, says that so often
anniversaries focus on the past, but
he wanted the Fellowship’s
milestone to be different. In this
instance, he says, it’s important to
keep in mind what God has in store
for the church’s future while at the
same time honouring the past.
“It’s important not to rest on [your
past],” Gazley said in an interview
